Default 2008 Tunnel to Tower run              Go to Top

I will be attending this run in full turnout gear - boots after last years experiance. It is the last sunday in September. i would like as meny Nassau FD's involved as i can get last year i know of a few department members wh ran ATLANTIC STEAMER, WEST HEMPSTED, EAST NORWICH, POINT LOOKOUT, AND EAST ROCKAWAY

Stephen Siller, beloved husband and father of five, was a firefighter from Squad 1, Park Slope Brooklyn. On 9/11, he was off-duty, and on his way to golf with his 3 older brothers.

When Stephen heard on his scanner that the World Trade Center had been hit, he turned his vehicle around and headed towards the site. When his truck was prohibited from entering the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, typically of him, he raced on foot towards the site with his gear strapped to his back.

He was last seen alive on West and Liberty Streets where he, more than likely, went looking for his Squad, all of whom perished. The Tunnel to Towers Run retraces Stephen's footsteps on that fateful day.

In running along his path, we honor the memory of all the Firefighters, Police, and EMS workers who performed their duty that day. In running this race, we are reclaiming still another part of the city for all our heroes and for all of those who died on 9/11.

They will never be forgotten!

Bah, I'm going to miss it by two weeks. This seems like a really nice run.

Yes, you can walk or run. It's not a race, just a tribute.

Just scoped out the results. There is a good chance I can pull a top 10 or higher so I might just go to race. We'll see. Either way I'm doing this race and making a FD racing jersey.

Guess I should start getting back in shape, not just tournament shape.

Do you guys run it in gear or in running apparel? If you do run it in the gear, how do you go about it? Full gear, only outside shell, boots or sneakers?

PM if easier

Chances are I'm going to race it, not in gear. If I'm not in the shape I should be maybe I'll run in gear just as an excuse to run slowly.
