First of all, Tom Brokaw needed to STFU and just ask questions.
Second, I think that Obama won because he did not do or say anything to hurt himself. McCain was trying hard to throw the digs at him but he didn't bite.
McCain was strong again on Foreign Policy and he dropped a bomb with the idea of the government buying up the troubled mortgages and renegotiating the terms with the homeowners. That is a dramatic change in his approach to the economic crisis that we are in. That adds up to several hundred billion more dollars on top of the $750,000,000,000 already given to the pigs in Washington.
I cannot disagree more with Obama's national healthcare plan. The more I hear about it the more I feel that we are headed toward a Socialistic government.
It must be hard to be a moderator in a presidential debate..especially the way they were going back and forth against each other. I dont blame Brokaw.
Meanwhile, I didnt like McCain's digs towards Obama, although i do agree with his views I just don't think it was appropriate at times. I have a hard time believing Obama there is something about him which seems very sneaky, not to mention his increase in taxes and lack of experience here and abroad dont help him as far as im concerned......JMO
McCain kept stabbing Obama with his idea to purchase a $3 million overhead projector.

I agree with ex4100, I think McCain did nothing to further his cause. He is at a grave disadvantage with what is going on now with the economy. This all happened with really bad timing for him.
According to CNN, key states like Ohio, Florida, Michigan appear likely to be going towards Obama. Even states that have been strong Republican states, like North Carolina & Wisconsin are either going towards Obama, or Obama is making it much closer that McCain would like.
I can't believe McCain spent all summer long trying to get Obama to do Town Hall-style debates. The format was devastating to McCain on stage presence and imagery alone. I'm also blown away by his proposal to buy up bad mortgages and re-establish them at present market rates -- the conservative/Republican base was the only demographic strength he had going for him before last night, and that socialist concept does nothing more than bolster the widespread opinion that McCain is a RINO. Fiscal conservatives will be avoiding the election booth in droves in November.
Obama could go hide in a cave with a dozen hookers for the next 3 weeks and still win this election. The absolutely scary idea of a Democrat congress unchecked by a Democrat President (and vice versa), and the thought of more Ruth Bader Ginsbergs (or worse) landing seats on the Supreme Court, is more or less a done deal at this point. I just don't see how McCain pulls it off...exposing Obama for the P.O.S. he is (ACORN, Ayers, Wright, Fannie/Freddie ties, etc.) is McCain's only hope, but that message won't resonate simply because the mainstream media will dismiss (at best) or supress (at worst) his message.
I still can't understand why McCain voted in favor of the bailout. He had a perfect opportunity to show his "maverick" and "no pork" credentials. Then his 'out-of-left-field' [pun intended] idea of nationalizing bad homeowner debt may have been a little easier to swallow. But to add an estimated $350,000,000,000 to the $850,000,000,000 already offered up is like pouring the proverbial gasoline on the fire.
Boss, I agree that the Conservative base he has been trying to rally for the last few months will stay home on November 4th.

Absolutely...I thought it was very hypocritical of McCain to harp on the "goodies" that he wouldn't vote for in a bill that Obama was in favor of, when that bailout bill was so loaded with "pork" it was ridiculous.
We're in a huge financial crisis, right? We're looking at another Great Depression, right? So what's the Senate do? They get together and create a pork-laden bailout bill.
The bailout bill contains the following "new" pork::

* Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
* 6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)
The bailout bill extends this existing pork:

I can't see how Senators would even consider adding that crap to the bill. I read an interesting stat the other day. As we all know, Congress's approval rating is horrible (actually a lot lower than Bush's). I was laughing when Pelosi kept talking about the unpopular administration when her Congress is a lot worse. Congress has an approval rating about 10%, yet their re-election rate is 90%. This means as a country we think they are doing a horrible job yet we kept electing them over and over again. After this latest scandal, which the Democrats (like Barney Frank and Schumer) had just a big a hand in creating as the Republicans, we should toss out Congress as well.

If you want to see really scary indoctrination of children, watch the YouTube videos of "Jesus Camp". The kids pray at cardboard cut-outs of Dubya. Or that idiot teacher who created the group "The Obama Youth" which has chants! Whats wrong with people?
Anyway, the debate last night was so useless. I blame the format more than anything else. Neither candidate was able to do any back-and-forth and we all suffered from short, useless answers as a result. Combine that with the fact that on nearly every issue, both candidates just BS'ed anyway, and it was a waste of all our time.
It's over. A Liberal President who has repeatedly said he intends to tax and spend combined with a Liberal Congress with a Cloture majority is coming. We deserve whats coming and it aint going to be pretty. At least Republicans and Conservatives like me can't be blamed for the carnage of the next 4 years.
Ladies and Gents- We have not seen the worst of the pain thats coming. TOB's (Tender Option Programs) who have hundreds of billions in assets wrapped up in programs will be forced to reverse their trades which will further exacerbate the markets. They're part of whats left of the major wire houses and also banks around the world. It's going to get really ugly real soon. Just listen to our own Governor (A liberal Dem). To his credit he is looking to slash a billion more from the NY buget after a recent 500 million doller reduction. But Osama says we dont need an axe only a scalpel. Good grief.
Earmark spending and the notion that cuts to Government spending should be made with a scalpel and not an axe as Osama has been saying is the problem. They will be able to add earmarks when ever they want. Osama's BS about the middle class and the trickle up effect is only believed by those who don't pay attention. The Middle class doesn't create jobs, Big Business does. So he taxes the "Evil" Corporations who in turn will lay off the "middleclass" or pass the cost of the tax increase to the "middleclass" in price increases. Great Plan, people are stuck on stupid. His tax plan is a big entitlement program. 40% of the Country doesn't pay any income tax at all. Yet he say's that he will give 95% of the country a tax break. What that means in Liberal speak is that those who don't pay tax at all can expect a rebate check in the mail compliments of those who bust there butts going to work. That's income redistribution and also un American. Your income is not the governments money my friends, Its yours and the Liberals want to take as much as they can to give to someone else (Even Illegal Immigrants) in the form of Medical benifits and college Credits.
McCain is a dumb ass as well by saying he will bail out the douche bags who refuse to pay their mortgage. And so he lost the conservative vote (like me) last night. He's cooked.
The only bright spot is I should have 4 great years making money at work creating Tax Shelters for the rich. 4 Years of a liberal President who has repeatedly said he fully intends to implement his tax and spend policies in earnest combined with a Liberal Congress (with Cloture majority) equals TAX, TAX, TAX TAX....The rich will come running to buy Municipals which are triple tax exempt to protect their hard earned $$$.
