I've been reading up on some stories of fireman, both paid and volunteer who responded to the towers either the day of, or the day after, to help with the search and recovery mission. Who on these forums responded to help? What untold stories do you have from that fatal day? Where were you the time the towers were hit / collapsed?
I was still in middle school at the time of the attack. I was in gym class when my teacher came into the room saying two planes had struck the World Trade Center. I remember peoples parents coming into the school to pick up their kids early... I remember seeing just thick black smoke from the windows of my school...
Thank You to all the men and women who lost their lives on that day trying to save the lives of others. May you always be remembered.

I was in middle school art when it happened, french when rumors started to spread, and english when it was announced over the PA. The next two days, we had to keep the windows in the school closed because smoke was drifting all the way over from Manhattan. Two months later, I joined the juniors. I was going to anyway, but seeing the first responders on 9/11, and seeing how my home department responded and reacted made me want to be a part of the fire service ten times more.
343-23-37 RIP. You make me proud to be a firefighter and EMT.
I was at school in PA and was asleep when the first plane hit (was planning to go to the late physics lecture) and my roommates father called to tell us what happened.
I was downstairs in the lounge shortly thereafter with most of my dorm and watched the 2nd plane hit. I was glued there and then watched as the they fell. I then spent the rest of my day trying to calm down a hallmate as her father worked in the south tower and she was absolutely hysterical, shaking and pouring out tears.
I'll never be able to understand what the people who were there, who responded to help and who lost a loved one have gone through. It did shake me up though, especially when trying to consul with my friend while trying to help her get in touch with her family.
I had a classmate who's dad worked in the towers... He was called down to the office only a few minutes after the towers collapsed. He didn't come back to school for a few days so we were all sure his father was lost, but thankfully he came back a few days later with stories of his dad being alive and home safe. His dad was down there helping out for three days before he could contact his family saying he was O.K.
I was working in the World Financial Center. It was beautiful out and I was on the horn making an offering of 5 million bonds to a customer up in Boston. The other side of my trade was a broker and friend who worked at Cantor. Rest in Peace Damo! I was outside and tried to help the best I could. I watched as my friends (possibly) or innocent poor souls who made the decision to jump rather than burn to death. The sound of a man or woman hitting the ground from 100 floors above will never be erased from my memory. Then it was night in the middle of the day. I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face and could hardly breathe. I tucked into a doorway to avoid falling debris. I made it home. I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THOSE SCUM SUCKING PIECES OF SH*T OR THEIR APOLOGIST'S EVER!!! HOW DARE YOU SAY WE DESERVED IT! HOW DARE YOU SAY IT WAS OUR FAULT!! HOW DARE YOU SAY IT WAS AN INSIDE JOB!! I HOPE THEY ALL DIE CHOKING ON THEIR OWN BLOOD ALONE AT NIGHT!
There I feel better. Rest in Peace Brothers and to the many innocents who died in the most horrific manner by simply going to work to support there families. Seven years later and it doesn’t get any easier to hear the names of my friends read off on 9/11. -- Bush 7, Terrorist and the blame Bush crowd 0.

This day will never get easier for me.
Well said due to the sensitivity of 9/11 ranters may not have wanted to say how they feel about these extremist C*CK SUCKERS! Not that this thread should turn into a terrorist bashing thread but every year that passes my hatred to these bastards grows more and more!! May all those who died that day Rest in Peace and those that are still suffering both physically and mentally get the care that they need.
