Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider Course
A full ACLS Provider Course will be conducted at the Academy in East Meadow. The 12 hour course will run over 3 evenings, March 4,5 & 6 from 7PM until 11PM. The Fee is $199.95 and does NOT include the ACLS textbook. Pre-registration is required. (An application may be found in the pull-down menu under "Forms" on the VEEBEMS home page.) Students must acquire the text prior to start of classes. The textbook may be obtained from Doc Brown's Books in Wantagh 516 221 3801 or ordered through the American Heart Assn. website. what will this course allow you to do? Is it just extra knowledge stuff?

Some jobs may require ACLS and/or PALS. I've never taken it before.....I guess you could say its more for knowledge. I know VEEB is going to be including it in the future EMT-CC classes.

I can definitely see the merits of this class for an ALS provider but it seems to me that a BLS provider can not enhance their scope of practice as far as dealing with arrests. It would be at least a good refresher of CPR and would not be a bad class to take in terms of realizing what is going on with your pt.

EMTfirefighter ... I don't think you have to be an ALS provider to take the class. The class does not allow you to do anything more as an ALS provider. From my understanding anyone can take the class. Some places incorporate it into cc and medic class, and since most people are not already ALS providers taking those classes, you can hold the certification at a BLS level. ACLS is a good class to have and I would recommend it for any ALS provider. The certification lasts for two years.

I called and was told that EMT-b is the minimum requirement to take the class.

Yeah! Infact they are starting that with the current EMT-CC class. You have to attend all of the classes on the cardiac part of the course, and I don't think there is any extra cost. I will ask if you would like to know more.

I know we are doing it in the current VEEB CC refresher class. You were given an option if you wanted it or not. If you said yes , you paid 15 dollars for the card and have to go to couple of classes along with a cardiac lab and take a test.

I am currently in the CC class they got going on, and we are starting the cardiac/ACLS on thursday..... We must attend EVERY cardiac lecture and labs......all we need is to pay $15 for the card and the book and everything else is provided............im very glad they finally became certified to teach it.
