I don't think AMR is very active in the Nassau area. They only have one job posting in NY and it's for an MD.
That being said there are plenty of private ambulances in the area if the 900 calls per year we do in town aren't enough for you. :-) Try Transcare or Hunter.
i applied to all of them that i could think of . . fdny ems told me 3 months so im trying to go somewhere until then and AMR was the only one that called me back so far offering me holbrook or brooklyn
AMR is based in Patchogue or Brooklyn depending on which office you work out of. Brooklyn does the city work while Patchogue does the LI stuff. The only hospital that is contract for AMR anymore is New Island but they now get fewer jobs since they became a NS-LIJ affiliate and now NS takes all there Critical txps and such.

so does AMR in brooklyn do 911 at all or are they just transport?
Brooklyn AMR has 911 bls in brooklyn out of KBJ and in the process of working out 911 ALS in manhattan. The test is a basic EMT exam not to hard and not really that important unless you score under 50. It is simple BLS transfers like all the other privates and ALS transfers and critical care. Probably 20% is "contract 911" out of nursing homes, MD office, some private homes when they don't want to go to the closest hospital.
i just left amr i was there for 7 or 8 months. there is a simple bls test and if you have experiance youll get more than 11$. its a decent job typical private in the end though but it has is ups n downs. they run 60% txp and 40% emergency to all the nursng homes, mosly in nassau since they dont have a operating license in suffolk and sometimes will do far txp's but thats usually for als. there is also a b/s physical in brooklyn you gotta do. once you get through that youll go onto your 2 or 3 days wih a medic of "training" ...after that your good to go on the road, just dont scew up n your pcr's cause youll hafta correct them till you get them right. its a really easy job though.after 3 months you have driving previliages.
I was working at a huge concert at randalls island 2 summers ago, and the first aid tent was run by AMR...My job was to stay in the medical tent, and if any serious assault/aideds came in i had to take a police report for them....that day it was about 103 degrees out w/ like 90% humidity....freaking Disgusting. No AC i was sweating my butt off. The tent was fully catered and they extended all thier food and drink to me as well. All of the crew that was there were very nice and professional. I even sat in thier bus a few times w/ the ac on to cool off. The whole day was running smooth w/ no problems, untill, yep you guessed it, the combative drunk gets carried in by some other cops....this guy was out of his mind, probably on some drugs too, and he jumps off the cot they had him on and goes on a rampage, well let me tell you, the AMR guys didnt hesitate to back us up at all.
Hey 403 I missed you..Thanks for showing up !!!
What's amr ???

I worked there years ago driving a ambulette and a ambulance before i became a tech. The only good thing about working there was i found where every hospital on Long Island is ,and I never can get lost on Long Island now.
