Cold Spring Harbor is currently hiring EMT/Dispatchers and they pay well....from what i hear it's BLS Fly Car for Charlie, Delta and Echo calls....wait for a vollie to roll the ambulance for Alpha and Bravo calls

That Charle Delta Echo is Suffolk Garb for priority EMS calls. Cold spring harbor FD? EMS? the FD in cold spring harbor doesnt hire EMT's so it says on their site

Some do some don't hire personnel at age 18. It has been known that some privates hire as soon as you get your card--but be prepared to actually work as a taxi cab for all BLS discharges and Dialysis runs--you may not encounter 911 emergencies unless you are working with a medic.

the privates were the worst .....late jobs no meals .. the whole industry sucks... STAY AWAY FROM IT IF YOU LIKE YOUR HEALTH......

LOL PDDIS12 I heard in my head in a deep voice DONT YOU DO IT! You had to be there. Anyway as a medic who currently works for the pvts and is a volly FF medic I agree with you but I have been trying to be objective and not opionated. I really can't tell you how much its annoying when I get a brand spanking new EMT who doesn't know where the hospitals are and I have a critical pt in the back, and they don't know how to use the nextel nor the signals to give because they are not vollies. I am playing FTO and medic. If you are 18 and have no experience BE A VOLLY!

Is Baldwin the only department hiring BLS?

Stay away from the privates? Why, might get some experience that will broaden/expand the mindset of not being able to do an ambulance call without rearranging the patients living room furniture; in order to make room for the stretcher???

Anyone who is young and a new EMT has nothing to loose by looking into FDNY EMS; if not as a stepping stone, than for the experience.

Just a quick note--as a Pvt medic i get paid more than if I went to a paid volly FD. medics do better than EMTs in Pvt section and EMTs do better in the paid volly FD. I don't know why it just is.

2 YRS EXPER AS EMT
DRVR LIC
MEDICAL
AHA BCLS
DEFENSV DRIVNG
PASS AN EMT ENTRANCE EXAM IN COORDINATION OF NASS PROTOCOLS

i think if you scroll down i did mention that most places that hire will give an EMT entrance exam

I thought North Bellmore's fly car was only ALS...anyway, what are the requirements for Merrick and Baldwin...
Also, just for the record. I am almost 19 (I know that doesnt change much in your minds) but I have been active in EMS since I was 16 (On calls and such whether this seems right to people on here or not) and was an EMT before I turned 18.
