Duke--If you apply to St Francis I can guarentee that you will get a 2 week training as a nurse extender-- they will teach you to take blood , do EKGs and whatever else is in your job title--Its a cardiology based hospital-- and most of the Rns there are willing to teach. I know many people who left my job and went to St fran--I deal with many St fran Rns and they are quite cooperative. You dont always do just the bed pans---Same with many of the other hospitals--I know CNAs in New Island that do very much the same as i did when I worked at St Cats. Nurse extenders have more in their job title than CNAs. You can also work in the Barotrauma at new Island. Winthrop you can also work in the cath lab as a CNA-- Great places to go when you are a student PA-- you can make friends and get a job at that hospital.

I find it hard to believe that they would let me take bloods as only certified as an EMT-B. I believe you but thats pretty cool that they allow that. Ill definitely look into doing this
they hire you as an er tech and then train you in phlebotomy ( taking blood) same as training a basic to take 12 leads as and er tech. community ambulance is hiring their in sayville
Duke hello are you reading? You get on the job training. You get a certificate for Nurse extender-- its in your job descrption to take bloods and do EKGs--I have been trying to get this through to you but you don't believe me--you don't get hired as EMT---THEY TRAIN YOU--YOUR BEST BET IS A SPECIALIZED HOSPITAL--they are all good--they pay well--winthop LIJ st fran NSUH manhasset--especially since you are a PA student which holds more water than EMT. Being an EMT is an asset to the employer-- it makes you more worthy because you already understand pt care.
You can also try being a nurse extender in many of the hospitals--St fran New island Winthrop S nass just go there and ask for a applic-- they will usually train anyone in a two week session
Cold spring harbor FD? EMS? the FD in cold spring harbor doesnt hire EMT's so it says on their site
Yea but CSH FD?
whats wrong with working for cold spring harbor its good money. i work there as a full time dispatcher emt and am paired up with another dispatcher so i am a "paid emt" dispatching as a part timer is good money and its not hard work no manual labor
Yeah but narcan, their not gonna hire someone who is going back to school in 3 months. Plus the hiring process (physical, orientation) and all that stuff takes about a month, and most places have you on a "probation" of some sort for at least 3 months. The probation doesn't mean much, you usually make a buck or 2 less an hour until your off it. Duke, I didn't know you were a PA student?
When I started this thread in June I was looking for some work in an fd or beach...now I am looking (and have found) ideas on where to work in PA. Thats why i dont generally look into hospital jobs in NY, the commute may take too long lol. But I appreciate the effort on all of your parts in posting these jobs. I know many EMT's who have seen this thread and are getting job ideas and looking into this stuff (especially for the beaches).
FDAMT-- he doesnt have to tell them he's leaving in 3 mos, eh I thought I would give it a shot. Duke has a point-- hopefully somebody got a job from all of this gibber gabber. Even if we helped one person then it was worth it. I tried to stay objective kinda got carried away.
Yeah but narcan, that would be a pretty poor decision to hide that from them, then tell them a week before you leave for school. I wouldn't want to list that job as a reference after doing something like that. Hey Duke, good luck with the 2 jobs your applying for and I'm glad this thread was a help!
