Dont believe this has yet been discussed on the rant but I recently read the article in WNYF 1st of 2008 about cell phone sites located in/on buildings. I found it to be a great article, informative, and easy to understand. To top it off, theres some important stuff to be aware of regarding them. I noticed one being put up on top of a nursing home in my district not too long ago and now its covered up with a 'look a like' brick covering to make it blend in with the rest of the building. Would never know it was there had I not seen it being built. I cant possibly list all the info from the article so you'll have to track it down yourself. But mite not be a bad topic for discussion on here.
I was on the roof of a building once w/ a big cell site on it, i was stuck up there for over an hour and a half....and i got a pretty bad headache.....idk if it was from the waves or if it was just coincidence
I used to install that equipment for Sprint PCS. Later on I was hired by Sprint PCS to troubleshoot and maintain it. I was in the business for 10 years.
Nozz, if you got a headache, it may have happened if you were standing within 8 feet of the front of the antanna for an extended period of time. Nice knowing you !!!
Any questions, just ask !
ps-I know absolutely nothing about phone plans etc...
Actually, the headache was probably just a coincidence. I've spent countless hours on those rooftops, sometimes in front of the antennas before we were told not to stand in front of them by the manufacturers. I did that for about 8 out of the 10 years and myself or my associates never experienced headaches or any health realated issues for that matter from standing in front of them (yet).
BTW, that distance of 8 feet that I mentioned in my earlier post is actually 3 feet, I had forgotten the distance on the warning tags.
We have one on top of our FD. Antennas are mounted on a 40' tower ontop of the roof. I asked one of the installers about being on the rooftop. He said that its 100% safe to be on the roof for any period of time, since the antennas are directional and point outwards, not down. He did say that if you had to stand on our siren tower (25' above rooftop) for any period longer then 15 mintues, we should get a hold of the cell company and have the site shut down temporarily.
Nozz...you might be onto something....I've been wondering why my "ammo" has been glowing in the dark....kinda like tracer fire you see in war videos.....LOL !!!

If you have to go up there, you should definitely call us in advance!
All cell site cabinets or shelters should have an FCC license and emergency contact number in plain site... so if anyone needs info on a site, or needs it locked ASAP, just make the call
