We're discussing Combine the Nassau / Suffolk Rants?
We're exploring the idea of combining Nassau FD Rant with Suffolk FD Rant to create a single Long Island board, and are looking for feedback on the idea. Please vote.
As for keeping some things distinct, there would still be things like:
Nassau FD Calendar
Suffolk FD Calendar
Nassau FD Notebook
Suffolk FD Notebook
There would still be Nassau-specific "Going to Work" Forums such as Transmit the 10, Smoke Showing, MVAs & Extrications, and Special Ops...in addition to Suffolk-Specific "Going to Work" forums...virtually all the rest of the forums could easily serve both Nassau and Suffolk brothers, which would increase the activity in them
Bottom line is we would absolutely maintain a very Nassau-specific presence wherever appropriate, but would use the rest of the board to "join forces" with our other L.I. brothers

...Greater exposure for all depts, events, LODD's, the FREE classifieds that we all use, etc....
...Also probably more hits/revenue towards the $$ that comes outta the Boss's own pocket, as well as maintenance issues being simpler on 1 site instead of 2....
...Info & safety-wise, I'm sure there are is a WEALTH of knowledge to be heard from Suffolk Firefighters as well as our Nassau brothers.
We would still keep clearly distinct Nassau and Suffolk sections in the forum...mostly the change would be on the "front end" of the site (the pages that are not the forum, like the home page, gallery, training exchange, etc.)
There are a lot of forum sections that could serve both, like Fireground strategies and Tactics, Drilling and Training, the EMS forums, etc.
Economies of scale benefits would definitely help as far as the costs and effort that go into running the 2 sites...
Although I really haven't spent much time on SuffolkFDRant, it seems the level of interest in Nassau's is far higher.
That's basically because I started the Nassau board first, and did a lot more to promote it (shirts, stickers, advertising, etc.) which I haven't done (yet) for the Suffolk board (that stuff gets expensive).

My personal opinion is that there are plenty of Rant Boards/Forums out there for FF’s. What sets Nassau Rant apart from others is it serves the County that I live and volunteer my services within (Nassau). Being exclusive to Nassau makes it quite easy to quickly access what’s going on and the current hot topic without spending hours going through numerous threads and pages. I have the utmost respect for my bro’s to the East, but my time and interest is very limited concerning Suffolk issues and activity. I probably have spent all of 15 minutes looking through the Suffolk Rant since it’s inception and have no real ambition to spend much more other than if a topic or event of special interest arises.
Imop, I think merging the two will cause some, possibly including me to loose interest because of sheer size and the time associated with navigating such a site. My prime reason for spending time on the Nassau Rant is that it serves the NCFS exclusively, which makes it unique to the many other sites out there.
There are plenty of other Monster FF Boards on the Internet, please don’t create another. Why change a good recipe and become like the rest, especially when it seems to work so well.
Keep them seperate, most are not that interested in what goes on in suffolk compared to nassau and i think most will loose interest and you will see a decline in the nassau fd rant.
You are doing a great job and why change it, the motto is "IF IT IS NOT BROKEN DONT FIX IT"

i find myself getting dis-interested in the suffolk board because im in nassau and obviously pay more attention to our jobs..If you combine like as follows i would be interested because it would educate members and buffs from both counties.

suffolk county is twice as big as nassau....and on that board the most acive forum is the "nassau stuff"...i wouldnt combine em....i would delete the suffolk one
