Default Dual Response - FD & NCPD              Go to Top

I have heard grumblings for a While about the discontinuing of this. Why all of a sudden is this going to take place? I understand it is a duplication of effort, but the system appears to be working ok. Whose decision was it anyhow to stop this practice in the county?

We only run dual with the PD for shots fired and hostage situations.

I don't knoe where your from east nowhere, but the dual response works horribly. The only place it serves a purpose is in places like bellrose or east williston that do not transport.

Dual response wastes resources. Think about this way. You are sound asleep and the pager goes off at 3am for a sig. 9 , you get out bed ,dressed and respond pull up and there is the county bus onscene already but because of dual response you get to lose an hour of sleep. And this would happen even if the FD was called first because the county is notifed with duel response. So now the county bus is not availible , and somebody in the next town over dials 911 for a bus but since that bus is out of service at your call which you have an FD bus and a county bus at the call gets rolled over to that towns FD. Dual response while it is a safety really only wastes resouces that are spread thin to begin with.

Well from what I understand of it the county and remsco were looking at the necessity of having multiple agencies responding to calls. In my opinion and experience it does work because sometimes the "vollys" and I hate that word have problems getting out. I know that when i'm on the bus I give the county a disregard while pulling out of hqts. as so they can stay in service for the other call that usually comes in.My only problem with dual response is when you get a ten you just might get multiple county 14's in my opinion and people might disagree if you have multiple mutal aid fd ambulances on scene put the county buses back in service they don't need to be out of service at the fire scene that's just me so ok let the games begin because I know i'm gonna get chopped up on this by somebody but to me it would make sense.

so, you get to go back home to bed, right?

guys I've spoken with like the dual response. It gets SOMEONE to the patient. To me it's the analogy of using general alarms on all calls during the day. You don't know who is gonna get out, but you know you are going to get someone to the scene; you can always turn around what you don't need. Whomever gets there first, it's their job. i have no problem pulling up and finding another ambulance on scene for any call. In fact I am happy with it. It means the patient is being cared for and I get to go back home to my family.

were im from, if the fd bus is responding or on scene, the chief/oic will give the county bus a disregard. whats wrong with that? and if the county bus is on scene when the chief gets their, whats wrong with giving a signal 12? as long as the patient gets the care needed who cares who gets notified? worst case scenario: you will get a disregard.

As one of the people most involved w/ the issue of dual response, let me say this:

The EMS Resources Committee of the REMSCO is charged w/ the responsiblity of assuring that the available EMS resources in the county are utilized most efficiently. That said, the policy of sending 2 ambulances to one call is a waste, plain and simple. There are 12 depts that were, at one point, automatic dual response. The committee, which I am on, met w/ each dept, and in some cases allowed the dual response issue to continue. Others, based upon the case presented to us and the pertinent facts have had the automatic dual repsonse cancelled. There are depts that are 4th and 5th due on the 911 depth chart requesting dual response. WHY??? That means that the FOUR other PD busses ahead of you are not available....why request dual response from the PD? This most always means that a 14A will be coming from several towns away, thereby increasing response time, needlessly placing another emergency vehicle on the road in emergency response mode.

This measure has the full support of the EAB as well as the vast majority of the fire service. If any of you have any questions about this, please feel free to PM me.
