As one of the people most involved w/ the issue of dual response, let me say this:
The EMS Resources Committee of the REMSCO is charged w/ the responsiblity of assuring that the available EMS resources in the county are utilized most efficiently. That said, the policy of sending 2 ambulances to one call is a waste, plain and simple. There are 12 depts that were, at one point, automatic dual response. The committee, which I am on, met w/ each dept, and in some cases allowed the dual response issue to continue. Others, based upon the case presented to us and the pertinent facts have had the
automatic dual repsonse cancelled. There are depts that are 4th and 5th due on the 911 depth chart requesting dual response. WHY??? That means that the FOUR other
PD busses ahead of you are not available....why request dual response from the
PD? This most always means that a 14A will be coming from several towns away, thereby increasing response time, needlessly placing another emergency vehicle on the road in emergency response mode.
This measure has the full support of the EAB as well as the vast majority of the fire service. If any of you have any questions about this, please feel free to PM me.
