Anyone with firsthand knowledge know about how long it takes NYDOH to grant reciprocity to EMT-Bs once all of the paperwork / payment has been sent to them? More specifically PA EMT-B to NY EMT-B if that makes a difference.

Thanks
I did that last May (EMT-B PA to EMT-B NY). I sent the form required by New York to my Regional EMS Council in PA (Eastern for me), took them a week to get it back to me, maybe just five days. Once I sent the complete Reciprocity to NYDOH, I got my EMT card within a week and a half. So it was quick and easy for me.
They say the length of time varies depending on how busy they are and time of year.
I would do it soon! A lot of classes are ending and they (NYS DOH) are going to be swampt.
I think (though since I don't work for DOH I could be wrong) that Reciprocity requests are handled by a different person or office than the state tests and original certs. Cause it was the same thing last year when I applied, classes were just ending so I figured it was gonna be a good month or two at the least.
Reciprocity doesn't usually work that well NY to other states. Most other states' protocols are more set to the national standard and allow for more things. When I got Indiana reciprocity I had to take both written and practical tests as well as go to about four classes (combitube and airway, IV maintenance, and another I forget). This was also before NY started using the pqrstuv assessment or whatever they changed it to in the last few years (I have been expired for a few). So doing patient assessment, even though I knew what I needed to look for, the testing wanted a different format.
"Bordering State/Refresher Reciprocity
If the applicant was previously certified or is currently certified in New York State and is applying
from a state bordering New York, he/she may request refresher reciprocity by completing this packet.
The bordering states’ refresher requirements must meet or exceed those of New York State and must
include a practical skills exam and a written exam within the past three years. There is no fee for
processing this type of reciprocity.
Bordering states include ONLY the following:
Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania"
i got reciprocity a fews ago coming from Rhode Island who goes by the national standard. I fill out the packet, and got a 2 year certificate instead of the 3 year. I didn't have to take any tests.
Just got the NYS card today. I mailed out the paperwork to NY last Saturday. One week turnaround after getting the paperwork back from PA (which also only took one week). I must say I am impressed with the turnaround time of the whole process.
