Were they "not started"- or has the final contract yet to be signed... or are "pics" not up on the website....big diff...
Just because the "Trucks in Production" website for ANY manufacturer isnt updated daily doesnt mean the schedule has changed....
LOL I can throw a pic of a chassis on a website and say " XYZ's truck" in production....
I thought the City was dabbling with Pierce, as R-1 is a Pierce. After 9-11 the City was given a Ferrara Engine, I saw it in Manhattan a couple of times, but then I believe it was taken out of service.
No the Ferraras are still in service Engine 54 in Manhattan is still in service and I am positive that there is another two or three Ferrara engines floating around in queens and brooklyn.
Spin, hey, whats up?....I believe there are 9 assigned 2000 gpm engines in high rise districts and they are designated high pressure engines....I guess out here, the 2000 gpm is needed for second floor fires.....

According to the latest Fire Apparatus Journal they are getting a total of 69 regular 200gpms. Thats a major change for them.
They have about 38 engines in service right now. The 2008 order is done they are now working on the 2009 rigs. What I mean what model they come in as. There is no change in them just the shop number is about it.
They are nice rig. Some FF like them but I hear the Engine Bosses doesn’t like them. Not enough room.
hopefully what ever is put into the city it can hold up to the work and beating the companies put on their apparatus. but when it comes down to it and the LCC starts doing things with the new rig that maybe hasnt been done in other areas of the country then the test will prove if it can hold its ground.
Can only imagine what the "new" ladders can do. Used to do some crazy shit with the old ( circa 1980's-90's ) ones. The new ones I see out there today the last fly is heavier than the bed ladder on the old ones. Would love to take the windows just one more time!
Hey is this a done deal? I posted this somewhere else and everyone on that board thinks I'm crazy...and they don't even know of my Quisp cereal and Dublin Dr. Pepper breakfast ritual.
The ladder itself will be similar to the Elmont truck with no waterway. The bolt on section will be very similar to what is currently in service by the city.
Ferrara won the bid based upon $’s, however as far as I know the contract has not yet been awarded. The vendor bid submissions (spec’s) are being carefully reviewed to ensure compliance with FDNY’s very detailed specifications & requirements.
The nameplates on FDNY rigs may say Ferrara, Seagrave, Pierce or whomever. However, the very - very detailed spec and rig that ultimately gets built is --- FDNY --- from Wiring, Chassis –Xmembers, Body, Cab, Aerial Structure, Stabilization System (jacks), Materials Utilized, Lube System, 5 Year bumper to bumper warranty and so on. In order for a MFG to complete for FDNY contracts they usually must re-engineer modifications to their existing product whether it be an Aerial or Engine – Body, Chassis and Cab with the exception of some one off rigs. Seagrave has an advantage in the game simply because they’ve been building rigs to pre-existing and recently modified spec’s for decades. They’ve been supplying the engines to FDNY for approx 20 years and the majority of the Aerials for around 50.
I guess the bottom line is while it looks good for Ferrara we really won’t truly know until the actual contract has been awarded by DCAS. If someone out there has more current info regarding the awarding of the contract feel free.
