Was down at the medical office yesterday and there were some FDNY candidates there for their medicals. They had list #'s in the 900's so make sure your getting ready and working out because stairmaster test is coming.
Next class is going to be filled with EMS promotion and candidates off the last test. You should have started getting ready months ago but if you didn't you better start now. Like stated above cardio, cardio, cardio......Good luck!
It's a tough thing to tell someone that they have to work out and prepare for something that might not happen. Too many people get a list number that they don't feel is going to get called and they don't work out for the physical and for probie school. Then by the grace of God they get called and are either unable to pass the medical because they cannot get their heart rate down, or they have a really hard time in probie school because they are so out of shape. If anyone even thinks that they have the remote possibility of getting hired, they should be working out like crazy. You really cannot feel sorry for someone who isn't able to pass the medical (unless they have a medical condition) simply because they're out of shape. If you have a higher list number then you have more than enough time to be working out. Be it guys who eat like crap, smokers, etc. Who's to blame when you don't get the job?

Which test? the controversal one, or the one prior?
Does anyone have any solid information on this? Because it seems my nu,ber is approaching or has approached. But I havent gotten anything in the mail yet. Let me know if anyone has heard anything solid.
The DCAS website states that they've sent packets out up to list number 1207.
I'm 1615 and haven't recieved any packet as of April 19th. I called the FDNY recruitment number to be sure I wasn't supposed to have one yet and the woman I spoke to said to expect a packet in June or July for a class in January 2009.
I've been trying to check weekly in the past couple of weeks because it appears that a lot of people are failing the CPAT or not passing the medical.
Make sure when you speak to somebody in the city you document their name and date and what they told you because they are human and make mistakes.
Also the list numbers you have are not like list numbers in the past. Your list numbers in the past were after written and physical. These list numbers are just after written, so I'm sure alot of people won't be passing physical and you will be moving up. You can get hired with a higher list number with this system. You should be working out if you took the written. Worst case scenario you're in better shape for yourself.
One of my guys took his CPAT a few weeks ago already and is taking his Psychological Exam this morning at Metrotech. He is in the low 1000's, and was told that they want him to go into the next class, which is starting in the mid to end of June 2008. The next class is going to 100+ EMS promotional and some off of the new exam. I am curious to see how many of the 100+ EMS promotional make it through the end of the academy.
I called again today to check since they have gone through the list much faster than expected and I was given the same answer, to expect to start the process in June or July for the January 2009 Class.
My mentor, who's been on the Job for nearly 20 years checked into it for me by himself because he was curious and he got the same answer I recieved.
I have heard they put out for an extra 200 names, to bring it up to 1407. I haven't heard of anyone past 1200 getting a packet, completing the medical or CPAT.
The FDNY recruitment people are usually pretty good. The DCAS people are the ones I don't trust.

What a joke, Promotion. Glad I left that Dept. The term itself is insulting.
All of you EMS folk should be insulted, by that term especially if you are a Medic.
Everyone keeps pounding in the physical stuff. Just as important as that is the academics. You may be in shape and have no problem, you are quized every week. You must maintain a 75 average thru out. If you dont, your put before a review board and you could be asked to leave. DIs may ask you questions in the morning when you walk in. Get it wrong, your carrying a roll up the rest of the day. Its going to be tuff when you get home and all you want to do is eat and go to bed. YOU HAVE TO STUDY. stay in the books im telling you its a must.
