I know this could go into another forum but this is just for ambulance's fly cars mci ems trucks. so who would like to back this bad boy into Franklin?
it may be a VAC or a specialized unit...or maybe they have short manpower so they put all their eggs in basket...rescue engines and TLs with pumps have become more prevalent...this is just another extension of that philosphy...they may have more than one also...
or they may have several and the first one acts as the rescue and the second is the bus... or something to that effect
similar to depts that have two quints and the first due one is the engine and the second due one is the ladder...hopefully everytime its different so everybody gets a piece and it doesnt matter what rolls first...
I dont think its a bad idea at all, hell it solves a lot of manpower issues. would love for our rescue company to have one of them for the occasional mva that needs the tool and a transport, then again im sure it has its disadvantges like a patient in the back with 37 FF back there that came on the call.....
Honestly, how big of an ambulance do you need? You’re transporting a patient or two to the hospital. How many people will it take to do that? Driver and a tech. Maybe one additional to help out if it’s a cardiac arrest. You don’t need six members for that. The city runs with one driver and one tech w/ a normal size bus, it works just fine for them, with 100x’s the runs. Why do we need to be so much bigger?? It makes no sense. JMO.
347 was built on a ladder truck chassis if memory serves me correctly. It was one of the first units called mutual aid to a nursing home fire years ago in Port Washington. They needed vehicles that could transport large numbers. First to a temporary area for all the residents. Then all the residents needed to be relocated to other facilities.
347 was the largest rescue truck in the northeast for some time, not anymore.... The old 349 was a tylenol bus, was like a mini ER the details i dont know as it was before my time in the department as a member..... 349 now has capabilities of transporting 3 at any given time. 2 stretchers and the seat pulls down into another place for a patient. RESCUE347 may have pictures but wasnt in during that time but hes a buff so im sure he'll have more details then me....
I wonder where that bus went after they got the new 349?!?!?!? RESCUE any idea?
I remember that night; never saw 347 before and when came pulling up I remember thinking to myself "what the hell is that thing?"
Thought it was the EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle.

I thought my buff beeper was screwing with me, came over 850-10, 33-347. Yah, right! That happens everyday. When I got to work and found out it was not a mistake. Wow.
