Water rescue search for a missing diver vicinity of the Atlantic Beach Bridge. Multi agency effort with LCFD, Inwood, Atlantic Beach Rescue along with NCPD Marine Bureau, US Coast Guard and NYPD/FDNY. All units on scene one diver in a group of six was unaccounted for.
LC Marine 1 made its maiden voyage today on the reported man in water, launched from Cedarhurst yacht Club with operator and Rescue swimmer, picked up a LCFD diver and tender at B2nd St. and commenced a surface search and put a diver in to search area under bridge. Was a really smooth operation with ABR vessel who provided safety for the diver from other marine traffic while performing surface search. FDNy R4/Sq270 on scene along with NYPD ESS9 and Air Sea Rescue. Nassau units got a real late notification of the job as usual...but still ended up with first boats on station. USCG, NCPD, TOH and Inwood FD and LBPD MARINE 1 also operated. Good Job by All!

communication couldve deff been better. the notification of divers missing and accounted for went back and forth between nassau fd, uscg, and nypd several times with different answers and messages.
Just a thought: for easy comms between agencys on a multi agency call like this, since you are all on the water, what about using marine radios. You can get a decent portable for under $ 100, and all the boats in the areas should have ability to talk to them -I know coast guard does, NCPD marine, NYPD marine, FDNY marine, etc......
