Default Member Discipline              Go to Top

Now, I realize we're the volunteer fire service, but there is NO excuse for members not having proper PPE and/or tools.....

....The "Non-chalant" way that several depts go about business is gonna bite you in the ass.....

...If you wear your hood for EVERYTHING, then you'll never forget it for the times you might need it....

...If you get off the truck with ALL equipment assigned to your position/task, even if its a "BS" run- you'll still look like a superstar, and practice makes perfect....

...There are depts cutting cars apart with guys wearing a baseball hat and sandals.....no eye protection, no gloves, no gear besides a coat.....

...Besides members, officers- LEAD BY EXAMPLE! If the brothers are taking a beating working a fender bender in full PPE, why are you "priveledged" enough not to wear gear? A good boss "suffers" with his men.

...And to some OIC's/Chiefs out in the field- its VERY hard for PD to distinguish between a buff with a radio and a chief officer at times- at least get a "traffic vest" that identifies the title you hold.

When we roll up at a scene and FD is operating it would be so good to know who the Chief is so we can offer any assistance.
With 71 FD's in the County there are well over 200 Chiefs and deputies. I'd hate to get to a scene and be told afterwards I checked in with Leon instead of the IC.

Sometimes it may be better to check in with Leon than with the chief.

Leon LOVES kicking and Punching glass doors at 6:30 in the morning when he comes into work, I've told him numerous times a simple knock will just as easily get me to unlock the door, but he has yet to give it a try

Never forget the time around in the 70's, he was at a parade (county) and he had his scanner with him ( talking in it) and lead a whole Dept. down a dead end. Band and all.
I guess alot of people didn't know him then.

Leon was out at the 2/3/4 Battalion Friday night. At the Nanooks Drill a few years ago up in Oyster Bay there was a 5 point bonus for the first team to show up Leon-style (off the LIRR). Because it is the summer, and to take a little of the heat off our bearded friend, I will now be starting a Leon siting thread in Halligans.

You are probably right. My father used to be a member of New Hyde Park back in the '70's and used to race with the Termites. He told me that one time they were upstate at a race and Leon made his way up there all on his own via train or bus.
