The word on the street is there will be another 3rd pct bus in the Hempstead area, and another bus in the 1st (to help with RVC and Baldwin area) by year's end. Also the 1st of the new re-mounts hit the street.....2353....more to follow....
what does it cost to add another bus, cost of bus/years of service plus the extra AMT's to staff it? While we are on the issue, why would a 2nd pct ambulance come to Manhasset? Why bypass multpile FDs? I have been told that this issue is a product of EAB wanting more busses per pct...
I still think that NCPD could put medics out in fly cars to not only assist their own buses but the FD's as well.. How many times do you here an FD with a crew and no tech. Send the PD Fly car to assist the FD and now you can keep the 14A that would have taken your call, in service. instead of laying up a second 14A at a code or trauma, send the fly car and keep the 2nd bus in service..
How about BLS drivers? You would definitely save money as there would not be a need for $100,000+ chauffeurs (not saying they don't do a fine job, but its like having an astronaut fly a kite). The cost would probably be the same as staffing 1 car per pct. Even if one car per pct was eliminated, it would still free up 3-4 cars at a time, because there would only need to be one car per incident, and 2 officers would not be "stuck" on an hour long alarm. They could go 10-1 directly from the scene.
The reason 2352 and many other busses go to the 6th pct during the day, is that there are certain FD's that are not in the 911 system at all. So calling an FD during the day is not an option
not sure what departments that would be, and no need to name them but honestly there are many many FDs even VACs closer to Northern Blvd & Shelter Rock Rd than an NCPD ambulance from Hicksville, is that an issue with the NCPD mutual aid system? I hear that the North Shore Medic flycar system is hit and miss with the vollies out east. Working with them in the Islips I thought it was great but I have heard of others that don't like them.
Is this addition of resources a move by EAB to take over EMS in the county or just an adjustment to an increase in call volume?

And they do have "flycars", the supervisors.
Sorry for my progressive thinking Grumpy!
Heard a rumor about EAB adding BLS......or at least considering it.
And Taxi, if you're referring to whom I think you are, I hear them tone out every so often "m/a to the NCPD" for calls when the 14as are all tied up, definitely at night, and I think during the day as well.
let see if there is a sig 9 in manhasset and no 6th pct ambulances are avail. and manhasset does not respond to 911 ambulance calls where should the ambulance come from??
fyi there are several other departments that do not respond to 911 ambulance calls and create a vacuum in there district. This puts a strain on the departments that are 2nd 3rd etc , because the bus that covers there area is in the department that does not go to 911 calls.
Can some one please post us killing another horse please we need one bad!!!
Jeep - MLFD is not in 9-1-1 during the day, so therefore, EAB covers all of MLFD's fire protection dist, unless they get a call directly, not through 9-1-1. And, 9-1-1 just can't M/A another dept into that area, so subsequently, EAB has to pull from wherever to cover the call. That is one reason why 2360 was put back on the road.
Adding ambulances has nothing to do with taking over EMS in the county. FD's are finding it very hard to provide EMS for various reasons.
