a memorable job from the north shore I would say was the hardware store in Port washington. A long night for the departments who worked there in an old building packed with tons of hazards.
1995 wildfires my company was assigned by my dept, one of most nassau depts that went and you get to staging area and we see sky bright and sunny with the burning smell from wildfire. the first fire i saw was on west side of staging area and in maybe 5 minutes watched it jump over 4 lane road creating dark sky 300 ft in front of us. our district has very little brush area was interesting to see that happen.
ahhhhhhhhh face to the floor.........thats exactly it....crawling into infernos with the boots down and sh*t hittin the fan....next memorable is any job at 100 terrace ave in da hub....always plenty of fire
How Bout the job in bellerose terrace , the house filled with garbage i think it was in either 1989 or 1990 , reall colliers mansion we (FP L-123 and alot of others were there about 9 hours trying to get to the seat of the fire, since there was no way to get into the house
in reply..here are some pics of that job. note the guys in the back who appear to be as tall as the top of the windows are standing on recycables ! when we pulled up, we couldnt understand why the terrace had not made entry, they couldnt get into any door, they wouldnt budge past the trash. in the other pics, we are trying to get into this place any way possible, eventually it met us in the air as it travelled up the walls and out the roof.
Hey X120....do you have any pics of this job from the front view around day break? This the job where the next door neighbor got locked up because he punched out the owner of this house, telling him "I told you this would happen". The owner was living in his station wagon (equally packed with crap) in the drive way.
Hey, was that spike on the ladder ?? He took a real bad feed on the Bellerose Terrace fire. The best was when we had the outriggers of 123 set up on the telephone pole
That BT job was where X120620 and my self found a cat on the 2d flr atop the garbage piled 6ft high , he jumped almost of the roof because he was startled to find a living thing in that mess. he goes "its still warm" , There was rats and all other kinds of rodents leaving that house the next day as they tore it down . alsso the backyard was full of sodacans waist high ! i know is almost got stuck back there lol
hey x you got some great old pics from the good old days.... keep em coming.

this is def one of my most memorable jobs..i was on 341 for this and as we stretched the 2 1/2 for an exposure line a few propane tanks blew and knocked us on our a$e$$ in the street....a few LB jobs stick out in my mind as well as the Regent Dr house fire in Lido which i believe was Labor Day weekend 2004 and the Biarritz St fire in Lido....good jobs

I'm guessing your talking about 522 Shore Road, second Tuesday of April 1989 and 72 wasn't a member of LB then. I think an Ex-Chief from Inwood took some roof shots of that fire, if that's the one your referring to.
THIS ONE'S FOR THE NEW GUYS, SOME OLD JOBS, FLORAL PARK FD, TULIP LANES GAS EXPLOSION. ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT EXAMPLES OF HOW " NOTHING IS ROUTINE". WE PULLED UP, IT WAS COLD AND IT SEEMED TO BE JUST ANOTHER GAS LEAK AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW, THE BUILDING JUST LETS GO AND GUYS WERE GETTING HIT WITH BRICKS AND THINGS WENT SOUTH REAL FAST. THERE WERE 2 APARTMENTS ABOVE AND VERY CLOSE EXPOSURES. THERE WAS FIRE TRAVELLING THROUGH EVERY CRACK IN THE STREETS AND SIDEWALKS AND THE BUILDING WAS 75 % CONSUMED WITH FIRE AT THAT POINT. WE MADE IT TO THE APARTMENTS, WALKING UP STAIRS THAT WERE SIDEWAYS AND ALL THE OCCUPANTS GOT OUT JUST PRIOR. ALOT OF DEPT'S HELPED, BUT ELMONT PROVIDED THE TRUCKS AND ENGINES THAT WORKED FOR THE ENTIRE DAY INTO THAT NIGHT. A REAL EYE OPENER ON UTILIZING JUST WHAT YOU NEED AND KEEPING THE OTHER RIGS OUTSIDE PERIMITER WITH THEIR MANPOWER.
ANOTHER ROUTINE JOB, IVE POSTED THIS ONE BEFORE, FROM FRANKLIN SQUARE. ROUTINE FIRE IN A GARAGE. IF YOU LOOK CAREFULLY AND SEE HOW LONG THESE GARAGES GO FOR, WITHOUT A GOOD STOP, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN CHASING THE FIRE FOR BLOCKS. A POINT TO MAKE WITH GUYS ON THE SIGNAL 10 THREAD WHEN THEY SEE SOMETHING WRONG AND IMMEDIATELY START BASHING THE DEPARTMENT. LOOK AT WHAT THEY ARE DOING CORRECT AND REMEMBER THAT INSTEAD. THIS WAS HANDLED WITH MINIMAL RESOURCES, BUT THE TRUCK AND ENGINE PUT RIGS ON EITHER SIDE AND USED IT TO THEIR ADVANTAGE.
NOTE GOOD TRUCK WORK AND HABITS, USING THE BUCKET AND A BACK UP MAN ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND THEN THE CHIEF, ACTING AS THE GUIDE FOR THE CUTTER ON THE LEFT. SMART TRUCK COMPANY LEAVING LITTLE ROOM FOR ERRORS.
