I hate to correct you in public TL but officially speaking, there is NO parade connected with the State Old Fashion Drill. Main-Transit is connected strictly to the State Motorized Drill. Sorry.
my apologies...when I replied i was referring to the motorized drill which is also in Main-transit...i was informed by someone several years ago...a lover of AA burgers and Malibu that the parade is only mandatory for the motorized teams unless certain criteria are met (which in this case they are not)
anyone hear if east rockaway and floral park are going to the counties this weekend? I would imagine floral park is going but heard yes and no to east rockaway
East Rockaway will be there....doing reconnaissance...muhaha...But not running. We're saving the juice for the states. So beware..the quack is back in full force.
Firing up some grills between teams is a great idea, but like the last tournament our boss's remind us its a " fund-raising " event for the host. Not to say the team wasn't buying shirts, adult sodas, and a quick dog.
Yes, the Old fashioned winners can only go to the front of the parade if the drill happened before the parade. One of the times we hosted the County the OF drill was Friday night so RVC was moved up. I think the next time the OF drill was scheduled for Friday but was rained out until Sunday. The winner of the drill Saturday will be in the host division. The top five in the state (motorized) are in the host division for the NYS Parade (although unless that parade is on LI it is really only the drill teams and like 3 other departments. The parade may be an hour tops). The Nassau County Parade is usually the biggest parade.
Maybe tellm can help us out with this, but I believe the rule states that there must be at least 10 teams in the drill in order for the winner to march in the host division, but the host Department can elect to move them up. The year the Woodlanders won the County in Oceanside I believe that 9 teams ran in the tournament. The Chief of Oceanside and/or the Parade Chairman didn't want to move RVC into the Host Division until Ray Maguire got their ear. It's a nice reward for all of the team's hard work to be recognized by marching in the front of the Parade & being announced as County Champs. I also remember RVC, Oceanside & Freeport having 150 + members in the line of march, but that's ancient history.
