Few questions on the County and State Old Fashioned drills...
About how many teams have been showing up recently for each one? I'd figure the State drill would have more teams but seeing that its starting at 7pm this year on a Friday night and the 2007 score card only had a handful of teams listed on the website, Ive come to understand that the county drill would have a bigger turnout...
Anyone know an average on the sizes? Anyone know who's going?
7/13 - County Drill
8/8 - State Drill
Both in Bellmore/Merrick
FDARCHIVE.COM - Drill and Parade Archives past years result. The biggest problem with turnout at the State OF last year was that Hagerman was the host and its a bit of a distance when all the teams were from Nassau (mostly western Nassau too).
To put it in perspective, take for example the State OF in 1992 and see the difference in number of teams and times needed to score.
for the county its usually all the usual old fashioned teams. Because the motorized is in that weekend as well most motorized teams dont run. as for the nys, many motorized teams wont run again since sat is the north bellmore drill. Yes, an advantage to old fashioned teams, but no, as there wont be more competition. when the state was in babylon there were a few motorized teams that came out and made a longer day. hagerman was like domey said far out. this year i would say we will get 7 definites (nass) 2 (suff-MP/BAB) and 5 maybes.... thats would be for both the county and state!
anyone interested in doing a massive cookout for either tournament? like team together and get some real food as opposed to the normal ham and hot dog? ive been trying for 2 years already and theres been no takers! i was real jealous when i saw west islip with there own cooking team at the state in babylon. they had everything, i think they even had extra people on the cooking team claming and fishing in that pond there! it was amazing........
absolutely. bellmore and RVC are always helpful as well. i just have to see if i can get a "team" for a practice, unfortunately that is one of the biggest problems for me to overcome with work schedules...

Another reason the STATE O.F. doesnt draw is the simple reason of not having a date set in stone. Used to be Labor Day weekend(saturday). Now its held WHENEVER. I believe 2001 it was the first O.F. drill of the year. This shouldnt be. Not saying this is the answer, but maybe if it was held the same time every year might help.
the furthest team that has ever run from up north that i could think of was bayville last year and the atlantic steamers, (but i dont see them coming out since there boss is now in MLFD)
