Hello!! The story on the new ncpd trunked system is still unknown. Motorola won the bid to devise the 500mgh system and rumor has it that precincts have built new towers??!! However, no news on when this apco25 system will come on line. If history teaches us anything , I would say it will be 6 months before any hopes of hearing anything new.
Does anybody know if scanners are going to be available for these frequencies
There was a rumor going around that these were going to be trunked and encrypted on the 500Mhz band. If the encryption is anything beyond the standard APCO 25 formatting then you will not be able to scan them, easily or legally. Anyone hear anything about the encryption? Mode will obviously be Motorola something or other, fleet mapping, std. trunked, take your pick. I hope their radio system works out better than the new MDTs though, what a mess that has turned into.
Correct..
The rumor is Encryption.... but what kind?
No sense is beating this horse any further. It always leads to the "what if's" of radio.
My advice... Just wait for it to happen, and you'll have your answer.
I'm sure there will be a simulcast for some time, before the 470 MHZ system goes quiet. I wouldn't want to cut over an entire system over night...only to find out it isn't stable. Besides, they have to outfit all the vehicles with new radios too.
The county system will be APCO-25 trunking. Any recent model digital scanner will decode the APCO-25 format. The new radios will be encryption capable. My understanding is that encryption will be used on an as needed basis only.
Let's give the mobile data project some time for the bugs to be worked out. I have never seen, heard of, or worked, on a mobile data project that did not require some time to work out the kinks. It might be running nicely before we know it.
Sources inside NCPD have indicated that nothing is going to happen until the new Police/Fire com center is built at the old King Kullen Warehouse on Prospect Ave. in Westbury. They don't want to build the new system in the existing facility and then move it in a few years to the new building; too costly I guess. Problem is the plans for the new building are forever being delayed and I don't think construction has even started yet. Welcome to Nassau County government. Sooo.........it will likely be several years yet before the big change is made. And by then, some even better trunking scanners might be available, hopefully at lower cost than the current models.
Correct Xts2500 It Is A Fairly Nice Radio I Belive They Are Installing Them In The Rmp's Also I Forget What They Are Though Xs2500 ?? Or Something Like That
From what I heard is that these frequencies will be Digital Encrypted. We will NOT be able to listen to them. Everytime the radio is turned on, it will have to be accepted into the computer system at PD Dispatch or else it won't work. This will be a big loss to all us buffs that like to listen to PD and get heads up for our FD calls.
