The Fire Marshals Office has added sub codes to requesting a routine investigation as well as an immediate one.
Sig 24N..Notification Only. To sum it up it's for tracking purposes of nuisance type fires that might lead to a pattern of fires that require investigation. No need to hold anyone at the scene.
Sig 24I..Routine Inspection is required but not immediately. Ex. poor housekeeping, storage too close to sprinkler heads, narrow aisles, etc . where an immediate response is not required. No need to hold anyone at the scene.
Sig 25I..Request for an Immediate Fire Inspection by the Bureau of Fire Prevention. For use when a department determines that a condition is so great that it poses a severe threat to life safety or property. An immediate response from the Marshall's Bureau of Fire Prevention will be initiated. Examples but not limited to, locked and/or blocked fire exits, overcrowding, propane or large volumes of flammable liquids in a building, the discharge of automatic fire extinguishing systems in kitchens or gasoline stations and where fire alarm systems or sprinkler systems have been deactivated.
If a fire department at the scene has a question as to which signal may be used they are encouraged to call Fire Com and have a duty Fire investigator or Fire Marshall call them at the scene to eliminate the confusion.
The signals 24 and 25 for fire investigations shall continue to be used when a fire investigation is required.
Voice of reason--him I'll believe but not tillerman. Good idea by the marshalls though for tracking reasons instead of just a blanket code it gives a more defined request.
Plain english, good question. Just press one for.
They are teaching that in the NIMS classes that we are all supposed to be compliant with or else!
The first I heard about this was at a county radio committee meeting, one thing was we have to comply with NIMS which means plain langauge and get away from using signals. Another thing that was brought up was the new signals, not in plain language. I'm not making it up.
As far as Tillerman letting this out of the bag, shhhhhhhhhhh, it's supposed to be a secret. Before that gets blown out of proportion, only kidding.
Duplication and negation, a little confusing and still no signal for in-line pumping or a located victim. <-- That thread stirred the pot nice for a few weeks.
You want in line pumping signal, go to Hempstead, ya want a signal for a vic, got to the city, you want plain language, go, ah, go to, ah,........
Ya want new and confusing signals when we are all supposed to be changing over to plain language, a place where half the already designated signals aren't used at all, and god forbid if you ever do use one of those signals, no one will know what your talking about. This is the land of confusion, not much love to go round.
