NEWSDAY FUDGING NUMBERS? IS NEWSDAY WRITTING ABOUT THEIR LITTLE DIRTY DEALINGS? GOT TO LOVE IT! NEWSRAG HIGHER UPS LETTING OTHERS HANG? GEE NEWSDAY DOING WHAT IT SAYS FIRE DEPARTMENTS ARE DOING? WILL WE SEE A 8 PART SECTION WRITTEN ABOUT THIS? LETS TAKE BETS.
LOL, their circulation is down, but people hitting their website isnt....
..they make their $$ on advertising, not news....
...so when 400 Nassau Firefighters hit their website to check out a fire in Hempstead instead of buying their paper, they make out better.....
..same thing with pics, Newsday pays $75 or so for a good shot. Post, News & Times could probably give 2 shits about a Nassau Fire.....
Ya cant stop that stray cat from coming around if you keep feeding it.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR AWHILE NOW. CANCEL YOUR PAPER > THE NEWSRAG YOU HAVE DELIVERED TO YOUR HOUSE. STOP SENDING YOUR PICTURES TO A PAPER THAT BASHES THE FD.(YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE). AND YOUR 100% RIGHT. GOING ON THEIR WEB SITE IS HELPING THEM..
Not saying if it's right or wrong, but $75 for a picture? People have bills to pay. Newsday is going to print the stuff about the fire departments no matter what. So if a person can get an extra couple of bucks in their pocket by taking a few pictures, so be it.

Very true, but there's plenty of other papers that pay for good shots. Certain "locals" pay $50-$100 depending.
No one is making a living on taking Nassau FD shots anymore- quite frankly not enough "cookin" and not enough looking to buy. Seems like FD photog's can maybe salvage a couple extra bucks after gas & printing fees.
1075, to answer your question about whether they have covered their own scandal, I searched newsday.com with "circulation" + "fraud" and found the following:
i read the article and wondered why it wasnt front page news or why there wasnt an 8-day investigation into how this happened and how the taxpayers were affected...hmmmm

It should have occurred to me earlier, but at first I was wondering why this was such a big deal.
If you read the article, however, the way advertising in (I suppose most) newspapers is set up is that the circulation of the paper is how fees for advertising are calculated.
They said approx. 100 MILLION or in that general range was bilked from advertisements as a result. Thats insane!
