There are some drills and parades that are the same weeks every year (County, State motorized, battalions, certain "established drills"). Open weekends can be used for invites and other drills, as long as letters of intent are put into your area association soon. There was a by-law passed a few years ago for the "open dates" that says if tow departments want to have an invite, priority will go to the department that hasn't had the later one. For example, if xyz had an invite in 07 and wanted to do it again in 08, but abc also put in for the date, then abc gets the drill for 08. Certain departments have been "grandfathered in" because of the history of their drills. In Nassau Hempstead had the 4th of July drill but moved it to the first saturday of August and North Bellmore always has a drill the weekend before the State. Hicksville has hosted the Labor Day parade and drill for years, but as of five years ago the drill has been run by West Hempstead and Hicksville started the parade up again a few years ago (but it's not connected to the drill anymore). As for invite parades only, I imagine you could have one almost anytime that there isn't a County or Battalion as there are basically no more invite parades anymore.

How can Brentwood be 3rd for the band when there is a tie for 2nd? Shouldn't they actually be 4th? Old fashion winner should march towards the front, but then they should be required to march all the time like the motorized teams regardless of where/when the parade is held.

A very close state drill. I believe only 9 teams or so scored points the whole day. Entire thing was wrapped up by 930ish which is unheard of for a state. Congrats to the top 5, esp NHP and Hempstead, our own Nassau teams.

I give credit to main-transit, not only hosting the state parade and drill and taking home a parade trophy but having a ripping job in the middle of both. A job well done to our brothers from the north-west
