Working Oxygen tanks on other rigs              Go to Top

Hi ranters,

We keep a BLS bag and O2 in our engines/ladder. Obviously, the oxygen tanks in our fire suppression apparatus don't have nearly as high a turnover rate as they do in our EMS vehicles. My question is, do they have a "shelf life" so to speak? Yes, we check their pressure levels to make sure they're still full enough, but should they get rotated out after a while? Our vendor that refills our O2 tanks does put a "born on date" on them when they're refilled.

Thanks.

No, O2 does not expire in the tank. As long as the tank has O2 in it you can use it. The only exp. date is the hydrostatic test date stamped into the cylinder. i think it is 10 years then the tank has to be replaced
