Ok this really has nothing to do with anything but curiousity, but why is it when you get a call on a Minitor 4 (maybe the others do it too, i am not sure), if you dont hit the squelch button, you start picking up other depts?
No biggy ... it's a reset. Think of it this way ... your tones are transmitted on either channel or selection "1" or "B" ... The "Bell" or "A" secretly monitors your frequency for your tones to activate ... Once it activates, it now rebroadcasts what's on either "1" or "B" until you reset it. Your agency's tones breaks the radio silence for your pagers so they can alert you and then give you information via your frequency.
ok...i'll give u the benefit of the doubt...and to anyone else who may not know...
I'll assume your dept gets toned out on 46.10...
If they do...after ur pager (any minitor model) goes off it is now in scan mode on 46.10...hence why you hear other fds...you have to reset it back so it only activates when ur depts PL tone sets it off....
I hope this answers ur question...
any radio people if i have made an error please correct me...
So dude ... how'd it work with the radios in your old place? You just had to pay extra attention? Did you have an on-call/response system, or was it mainly in house stand-by's, etc?
haha yea it seemed that that pic would describe it! basically, how it worked were we were supposed to have in house crews, but there were gaps. some people bought there own radios, and some people were issued radios. basically there were 2 main channels for calls. both picked up the dispatcher, but only one could communicate with the dispatcher via a repeater. only officers were supposed to be issued this one. when a call went out (this was on ultra high band), you get on the radio channel that didnt communicate to the dispatcher and announce u were heading to hq, and ask for any other reponding people, so you could see if there was a crew on the way or not. was kinda helpful for me at nite, because if a call went out at 4 am, its nice to know someone besides me was on the way. im liking pagers better, its more convienent when im in the grocery store to wear than my ht1250

The model for the FF statue in the pic was a very young Tellmware2go.
Before there were radios and microphones he used a bullhorn. It doubled as a funnel at dinnertime.
