Default "Pin Job" - 2 Door Suv              Go to Top

This is just a picture of a 2-Door-SUV, not interested in specifically this type of model but any 2-Door-SUV in general. I am wondering how you would handle a passenger pinned in this type of car, since it is no longer your average "door pop".

Scenario # 1
A 2-Door-SUV gets T-Boned running an intersection and has 2 kids in the back of the car who are now pinned and unconscious in the back. The front bumper of the other car hit directly between the 2 tires of this type of truck on the drivers side and is wedge up against the SUV. You now have to worry about the 2 kids in the backseat and a car lodged up against the drivers side of the SUV.
What would you do?

Scenario # 2
A 2-Door-SUV is going around a turn too fast and slides off an "icy" road and flips over an embankment and into a wooded area and is now laying on its roof with a family of 4 trapped in the car.
What would you do?

I know these are broad scenario's, but I am just curious on how people would handle these types of cars since we do not see them involved in the everyday Auto Extrication.

#1 Try to cut the posts and remove the roof. This way, you will have access to the whole interior of the SUV.

#2 Call Hempstead.......haha Open up the rear door and try to get them out from there or possible from the driver/ passanger side of the SUV.

Of course the vehicle will have to be secure to do any extrication.

You could go through the liftgate and work your way forward...

I've cut the side right out of one of these exact SUV's. Then simply moved the front seat up. You can also cut the front seats out/remove the roof. WHATEVER it takes.

you can make a 3rd door on the unaffected side. This can be done right behind the door; make the cuts and the put the spreaders in the window, and open them as wide as they go. This will allow for the "door" to come down and you can remove the rear passengers that way.

Vehicle Extrication: A Practical Guide - Google Book Search

Third Door Conversion
A term that describes a displacement evolution used to open the rear side panel of a two-door automobile creating a third door or access opening to the trapped patient. Done it on a 2 door hatchback but not a 2 door SUV before.

the quickest way would be like many of you said go through the lift gate and get them out of there it can take a while to cut a roof off of some SUVs.....and then esu will be trying to do there own thing....best thing to do is get them out quickly and effeciently

1. K.G.B. (krib, Glass, Belts) , 2. take the doors, 3. and roof. 4. and if you have to front seats can come out too. 5. removed victims 6. pack up and go home.
