Best regards, Rant Boss.
We're discussing Point Lookout Lido Dept Secretary 10/15
Ive never had the pleasure of meeting Shawn before. I have seen him around but never got to meet him. Tonight his presence and effect on the Fire Service could be felt. Such a strong impact. Had to park all the way on the #3 side, thats how packed it was. So hopefully Shawn well meet some day, but not too soon.
To Brian, James and Chris, keep strong. Were all here for you.
What a blow to the fire service. To the members of the Guerin family my thoughts and prayers are with you. And to the Pt. Lookout Lido FD my thoughts and prayers are with you too.
Shawn May you Rest In Piece. And thank you for your years in the fire service.
Very good tribute on the home page. I put it up so the guys who used to work with him at Firecom could see and all were touched. Can't say enough how much he'll be missed.
I am sorry I am posting this a little late I had to think about something to write. I met Shawn a few years ago while I was working over in Veeb's Uniondale office he was the type of person who would talk to you for hours and would always talk about the fire service. The last time I saw Shawn was almost a week ago at the Gala for the fire museum at the Crest Hollow Country Club where they honored Sue Lund. I was not supprised he was attending this event because he was always there for his family , friends and his co-workers. I did not know about Shawn's passing until Tuesday afternoon and yes it was quite a shock to me and the fire service of Nassau County as a whole. Shawn rest in piece brother I did not know you that well but it was certainly a plasure knowing you for the times I have ran into you at work or at a fire scene you are now with the Supreme Chief upstairs. To the Rant Boss that was such a beautiful tribute you wrote about Shawn this man certainly deserved a beautiful tribute. To the Guerin family and my brother and sister firefighters of the Point Lookout-Lido fire Department my prayes and condolences are with you.
For those of you that know me and even those that just know me from the Rant, you know I love to make people laugh. There is nothing better for me then to see a smile on someone's face. All of us that have known Shawn, we need to think back over the last 48 years and remember the fun and laughs that Shawn gave us all. I know how difficult a time many of us are having with Shawn's passing so sudden. But he loved to laugh and crack jokes about his friends.
The RB asked me to try and get a few good words together about Shawn. I have been doing ALOT of thinking these past few days. Boy what alot of memories. Many times smiling about the memories, many times the tears over powered me and I thought it would take a long time for me to write something here.
One person I want to remember is Shawn's Father, John. As so many people have written here the last few days the Guerin family was an actual i-con in the Nassau County Fire Service. Three generations ( that I know of) and still going strong. If you knew Shawn from the PLLFD, you met his father. Whether it was at the firehouse where John worked for many years as the headquarters houseman or up at the Concord at the Chief's convention, or at a parade, he was there. Leading the family into a little bit of history that seems to be drifting away from the fire service. Family! John brought three sons into PLLFD and John, you did one heck of a job bringing up your family and should be very proud. On a sad note, John also had to be part of something no Father should ever have to endure, stand by and watch his son loose his life. John, your a very special man and did a real good thing when you raised your family. It meant so much to me when I greeting you in the funeral home, when you saw me, your face just lit up and that was something special. I wish it could have been for a happier occasion.
Shawn, I know your not here to read the Rant but I just want your friends and family to know, man were you loved. I have never in my life seen a turnout at a funeral like I saw last night. Many others have said it, he touched many lives and everyone he touched, didn't just remember Shawn, they loved him. It was very obvious the last two nights in Wantagh.
Brian, James, Chris, Nancy, I think I can safely speak for the entire Nassau County Fire Service, Shawn's life touched so many that are a part of it, we are ALL here for you and we will always be here. If you ever need a friend, you know we are only a phone call away. Please be strong. I was just a friend and I'm hurtin, I can't imagine how you feel, but we are ALL here to try and help and make you smile, you know, the way Shawn always smiled.
Memories will live on for many years. Our love for Shawn and his family is forever.
