Don't know if anyone can answer this. I have heard a lot of calls lately where the fire dept can't get out for a rescue call and the chief asks for a 14A. (The last time I rode in a police bus I got a pretty good bill in the mail. At the time I had no insurance and was responsible to pay that on my own.) Who is responsible to pay it when you call the fire dept for an ambulance and the police show up? What if that patient doesn't have insurance? I am pretty sure I know what the answer is going to be, but I want to know more.
Thanks
You've got to love this system. You pay taxes that support the police department and expect said taxes to provide such services. Makes you wonder how long before you call the police for assistance and the officer gives you a bill before he/her leaves.
I know an Ex Chief who called a fire Dept for a ambulance and a 14a showed up he got the bill and put in the fund drive envelope. just remember the county will bill you but they have a private collection agency that goes after you the more they collect the more they make and they will hound you to death one more tidbit if you are at a sig 10 and they take you to the hospital you will get a bill so much for the 8,000 dollars in taxes i pay.
Well, here are a few answers or perhaps a little more insight.
The ambulance bureau does bill and its meant to collect from your insurance company. I honestly do not know what happens if you do not have insurance and don't pay.
When it comes to injured members, if the 14A is going to transport, be sure to give the FD's address and not the members address. Workers comp should pick upi the tab, let the bill go to the dist and they cvan sort it out by giving the billing company the info for the insurance carrier for your workers comp. Just like you would at the ER.

FD basically 'bills' for its services via taxes each year levied on its district's residents etc....
NCPD bills after someone uses the bus to go to the hospital. Yes you pay HQ tax, which covers 'non-PD patrol' issues, but you don't really pay for the bus unless you need it....
SO, that being said is it better to pay the FD $XXX a year for a service the typical district resident won't use, OR to get a bill for a service provided & submitted to XYZ insurance carrier? Oh yeah and get a guy/gal who is always an ALS provider & does this EMS thing as their career (imagine EMS as a career!)...
Just a bit of food for thought...
As a volly and a career provider trust me I see both sides of the coin, we all need to work together to keep our fragmented system working each day keeping our residents safe regardless of what it says on the side of the bus...
I recently found out that the volunteer ambulance corps in my area charges too. Do they get tax money or no? i would imagine they do, and they also send out the fund drive envelopes every year. Triple dipping much?

If you talking about who I think you are discussing they do not get funding from the states regularly. They are eligibile to apply for grants and such but do not get funding annually through/from tax money. They bill your insurance and see what they can get, but they do no come for any more. There policy from what I have been told is to bill the insurance company and get whatever that company considers "ambulance donation" since many will not cover the bill and leave it at that.
In general I'm ok with the whole being billed thing. If god forbid I really need the bus I don't care who shows up whether it's my FD guys, NCPD or local Ambulance corps. -- just take me to the hospital!!! Worry about the bill later! That's why I have health insurance & AFLAC.
BTW: I'll be honest, I contribute to my local volunteer ambulance corps. Every fund drive I send a check.

Ah ok. Thanks. I thought they also recived tax money
Do PCR's still have the boxes on the back where you can check either "Self Pay" or one of the major insurance carriers?
No one is really holding any volunteer fire department back from starting third party billing for ambulance services.
