Default Quit Smoking              Go to Top

As of today the state ciagrette tax is increasing $1.25 to $2.75 a pack. The price of a pack of cigarettes now are going to be more than $8 a pack and even greater in the nyc.

Cigarettes jump past $8 a pack -- Newsday.com

There are some great programs out there that NYS has to help NY residents stop smoking. If you were a smoker or are still smoking lets hear what programs/medications worked and what didn't work?

With the price going up, Im sure there will be alot of money to be made from the illegal sale of smokes by both the sellers and the P.O.s collaring them.

I just received the patches in the mail from the smokers quit line... I brought a pack last night, so when that's done, I plan on starting the patches.... I'll advise...

Should it really be the price of cigarettes that gets people to quit, or the fact that we know that over 80% of lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking? Lung cancer is also the leading cause of cancer in the world, as well as the fastest growing.

Good luck to you. I know a few people on this board who should join you...anyway, I never understood the fireman-smoking connection. Years ago, the first time I witnessed a fireman light up a cigarette after coming out of a burning building, well it had to be the oddest and most confusing thing to me.

It's funny, growing up I never smoked, thought it was dumb, didn't start until i joined the department. Just about everyone in my company smoked, now 17 years later, I'm still smoking.

I tried quitting using the patch, the inhaler and the gum.. All worked for a bit..I finally quit on the new medicine chantix... Some mild side effects but nothing compared to the effects of smoking...

Believe this one: I've given people oxygen at the scene of a fire, only to have them sign off an RMA and go light up a cigarrette!! damn smokers!

Hey man, as a non-smoker myself I cannot understand how people can willingly go out and smoke pack after pack knowing they have an 80% chance of getting cancer. Yes I know it's your choice in the end but I simply don't understand your means of justifying it.

To the OP. Goodluck. hope it works out. We have a guy in our dept who stopped (not sure if he has restarted or not) but he noticed changes in his ability to breathe very soon.

I've had people come up to me at a fire scene, while smoking, asking for oxygen claiming they can't breathe.
