Default Rant Guidelines for Juniors              Go to Top

Your time in the juniors and/or explorers is meant to be a time of LEARNING, and your time here on the Rant should be considered no different. This can be a great tool to make you a better firefighter AND BROTHER if you are honest with yourself and use it appropriately.

There has clearly been an increase of junior members posing as salty vets -- I say "clearly" because in most cases it is absolutely clear. In some cases some of you have suffered tremendous abuse -- you made your bed and slept in it.

Juniors: READ more than you POST, and when you do post, ASK QUESTIONS and LEARN. The Rant is not designed to be a playground where you can pretend to be something you're not. Trust me, if you mess around, if and when you are exposed you WILL suffer consequences within your department either now or when you do come of age.

There is NO SHAME in being a junior, and there is an excellent juniors forum here on the Rant that for some reason sits dormant. USE IT, and don't be ashamed that your firefighting career still lies ahead of you -- it's actually a great position to be in.

Consider this friendly advice, but also keep in mind that you have been warned.

Jeeez, don't you think that is a little extreme. The Rant is a discussion forum, not a war room, if the kids (Explorers/Juniors) have a comment I really don't mind hearing it. You learn pretty quickly who is who, and who'se opinions merit consideration. Heck, i bet some of these Juniors are better read up on current issues in firefighting than many of the older guys are.

I think it's a fair piece of advice. I think we'll also leave it at that.
