Think before you register.
If you're here to stir up trouble and attack or criticize other departments / companies / members / officers / etc., don't even bother registering. We reserve the right to delete any post and / or account at any time for any reason, and you will have wasted the time you took to register.

More than a dozen volunteer moderators help to ensure that the Rant remains useful and informative, by enforcing the Rant Rules.


Think after you register.
Nassau FD Rant is intended to represent the integrity and brotherhood members of the fire service are known for. It was created to share information and foster a spirit of camaraderie. The Rant is NOT a forum for uncontrolled arguing, acting on grudges, or for degrading the actions of other departments, companies or members. The Rant is NOT a place for Internet tough guys to hide behind keyboards and say things they would not have the guts to say on the truck house floor. Any posts which lead in that direction will be deleted. Repeat offenders will be booted from The Rant.


Do NOT post privileged information.
As a first responder, you will often have access to non-public information in regard to fires, MVAs, signal 9's, etc. -- information that is vital to ongoing investigations, confidentiality, etc. DO NOT, EVER, POST THIS INFORMATION ON THE RANT.

Furthermore, you should ALWAYS follow your own department's guidelines for the release of information when posting here on the Rant, but the bottom line is that you should USE YOUR HEAD when posting info. If you're not sure, DON'T POST IT.

Posts that provide details that should not be released will be deleted, repeat offenders will be shown the door.


The Rant is not a public laundromat.
This is a public forum readable by anyone who visits. Just because something may be true doesn't mean it should be posted for anyone and everyone to read. Everyone has "dirty laundry" -- this is NOT the place to air it out. The "RANT" stands for Resources, Articles, News, & Training, and that's that.


If you're a vollie-hater, you will be frustrated here.
There are plenty of places where your vollie-bashing is allowed to play out unrestricted. This ain't one of them. Your garbage will be deleted, and if it continues, so will your account. Don't like it? Tough nuts.


Do NOT post real names; yours or anyone else's.
Nassau FD Rant does NOT allow the use of real first and last names, PERIOD. Accounts and posts appearing to use actual names will be deleted.


Do NOT come here simply to siphon traffic to your site.
Forum posts that do nothing more than direct Ranters away from The Rant to click to other sites are not acceptable. The Rant provides free links to any site in the links section, and certain links in your signature may be acceptable as well. Posts that do nothing more than say "hey, leave the Rant and come to my site" are prohibited.

We're more than willing to work out reciprocal arrangements with any site of interest to Nassau FD Ranters.


Do NOT pretend to be something you are not.
If you are a junior or a green probie (or not even a FD member), do not use the Rant to try to project the image that you're some salty vet. Sooner or later you will be exposed for what you are (just trust us on that), and the chances are you will be exposed to public humiliation and shunning by members of your department or prospective department. A simple rule of thumb is that the less experience you have, the less posting and more reading you should be doing here. Don't say we didn't warn you.


DO use the RANT to become better at what you do.
In addition to being a community to build camaraderie among brothers across Nassau, there is a growing wealth of useful information on the Rant, and there are plenty of knowledgeable, experienced firefighters and EMTs on here from whom we could all learn a thing or two. If you have a question about something, ask it! If you really don't know what you're talking about, don't post it! (See the previous rule).

Whether on the Rant, or by cracking a book, or by reading one of the dozens of firefighting magazines that are surely lying around your firehouse, keep learning as a firefighter for as long as you're signed up to answer the alarm.
