WANTAGH (WABC) -- Police on Long Island arrested a man on the Sunrise Highway in Wantagh following a violent case of road rage.
Authorities say the suspect used a tire iron to go after another driver's car, and that he may have been high on prescription drugs.
They say the yellow Monte Carlo he rear-ended was attempting a left turn from the right lane of the busy highway. But cops say the 30-year-old man from Massapequa simply lost his mind.
"I was scared for her life," the victim's mom, Gina Ricciardi said. "I'm on the other phone hearing what's going on, and I cant get to her quick enough.''
After the crash, the 20-year-old woman who tried to make the illegal turn called her mom, who was on the phone when she says the other driver flew into a rage. "He opened her car door and tried to pull her out," Ricciardi said. "Told her he was gonna f-ing kill her."
"At first, I didn't know if he was trying to help the person in the car," eyewitness Steve Goldfarb said. "Before it registered that he was attacking her car."
From the car dealership across the street, Goldfarb watched the man use a tire iron to bash in the woman's rear window. He quickly jumped in front of the man and calmed him down.
"We were like face to face," Goldfarb said. "He was pissed off because he said it was her fault the accident happened, that she stopped in the middle of the road."
Police have yet to formally identify the driver, but plan on charging him with menacing, criminal mischief, weapons possession and possibly driving while impaired. The victim, as well as a passenger in the suspect's car, were taken to a hospital for injuries relating to the crash.
I was recently involved in a road rage incident (no, I was not making a left turn from the right lane; I simply got in front of an SUV in heavy traffic on the LIE) it is my impression that people are nuts out there. This guy swerved in front and clipped the left front of my car, and then left the scene of the accident after much cursing and swearing, but before PD could arrive. It is high time for people to calm the f*&k down. Even if the accident was her fault (and it probably was) that is no reason to drag a person..no less a young woman out of a car..and try to beat her with a tire iron for God's sake! We all carry insurance, if she was liable, her insurance will pay to fix the guys car, sure beats a felony charge, lawyers and the possibility of jail.
The accident was probably NOT her fault considering i saw on other news sites that he was high on prescription drugs, and was charged with having illegal drugs in his car too. The police obviously had to ask HIM what happened before they arrested him before getting HER statement, so...
another douChe on our roads...there's plenty more...I woud have invited him to do that....One command to drop it, the next would be to drop him ! 2 shots--2 bad, my friend...do your drugs at home and torture your own family...not some guys bubbleheaded daughter who's gps told her right and she went left !
I happen to know the victim and she was hurt badly
Sorry about your friend, and I can certainly sympathize with her, however, sometimes people engage in a little hyperbole or exaggeration, he surely didn't mean she should be executed!!!! ScholarlyEMT is a truly good guy who posts a great deal of valuable information.

Would have been good if a cop in an unmarked car was present.........

Sorry Rollover, I couldn't resist, lol
Everyone be safe.
I was kind of hoping you and Darth Vadar were working the LIE in Queens a couple of weeks ago...
Anyhow, I have a feeling his sneering mug will look slightly different by the time he makes bail...if he makes bail. Five thousand bond or 2,500 cash alternative seems a little low.
