Rockville Centre contracted w/North Shore Ambulance?Go to Top
Have been hearing rumors for quite some time and now have been told that beginning Dec 1st.. Mon-Fri, 6am-6pm that North Shore ambulances will be handling the the medical calls in Rockville Centre.... night and weekends FD and 14A will dual response. This could certainly start a new trend..
Is there anyone from RVCFD here who can enlighten us on this?.. meaning how will this work? Will the FD stil get toned out or not even bother now.. Will NS be bringing in a second bus/flycar for multiple calls, etc. Will they be on a village frequency or their own??
Re: Rockville Centre contracted w/North Shore Ambulance?Go to Top
Ask Mr.Stackup or any of the other FD/North Shore people on here. Yeah it passed as the FD bullied the village to do so. Hopefully the communitiy will see that this "trial" is a waste of taxpayer money, yes the FD budget should be lowered. It was well known that the membership has a large contingent works for North Shore.
Again applaud the FD for recognizing a problem, but the games that they played to get North Shore in was ridiculous. There were many ways to handle it and it was evident from the beginning that it was a "Shove North Shore down the villages Throat"
They have begun a precedent in Nassau that will ultimately hurt the FD. I am hopeful that companies like AMR,Lifestar,Hunter etc, file lawsuits against the village for the missed opportunity to bid on the contract. And hopefully when the truth comes out as to how much MORE this is costing the village, the residents will fight it..

Hmmm, Isnt this the way our county executive wants EMS to be run in the entire county?? While I agree that the entire EMS operation in the county needs to be rethought, I'm not sure privatization is the way to go.
Re: Rockville Centre contracted w/North Shore Ambulance?Go to Top
I was unaware of all the politics that were played in this, although I guess I could have expected it.. nor did I know that there was such a link with North Shore.. Wow, I would have thought this would HAVE to go out to bid.
Someone asked for this to be deleted?? Why?? Does this break any Rant forum rules.. ?? This could have a major impact on the future of EMS in this county and I want to hear the reasons that go with it. Does the village get anything back on the insurance that will be collected?? Will there be a charge even if the person doesn't have insurance? I beleive NCPD doesn't charge the person if they don't have insurance. My intent was not to upset the beehive, I was really just interested in how this whole thing was going to work.

no a member i know and have respected for sometime asked me to edit my posting for now...i can't promise him, i won't repost. It was alongs the lines of a department paid tech rather than privates, the residents still want to se RVCFD pull up to the house!
Re: Rockville Centre contracted w/North Shore Ambulance?Go to Top
Does the Village of RVC have a CODE OF ETHICS? North Shore should have been excluded just for the reason to eliminate any sense of impropriorty. Other Ambulance Companies should come forward and sue the Village. I'm sure some LAND SHARK would love a case like this. Where is NEWSDAY? I'm sure they can twist this one to look real bad for the fire service and Village.

This thread is bordering a lock...play nice
on this issue...several comments are really knee jerk at best...please try to have some constraint when posting...i'm sure people have "insider" knowledge...that doesnt need to be posted here...I know people involved with it as well...i'm not posting in regards to it though...
on the surface lets assume the best...that the RVCFD and V of RVC identified a problem and have done something to try and deal with it...
lets not play into the old cliche of being our own worst enemy...
Re: Rockville Centre contracted w/North Shore Ambulance?Go to Top
The RVCFD does not get funding for ambulance service. The money we receive from the village is to operate the Department. The origional proposal presented to the village in August 2007 was for paid techs to respond in a RVCFD ambulance. The village allocated the monies for this program in this years budget 6 months ago and nothing had happened in that time frame. But then somebody wispered something into someones ear and told the village that if the ambulance was under a volunteer ambulance corps, they can charge for ambulance calls (the reason for the delay in anything to be put in place). In my opinion, there was a price tag being put on someones life in this village. It was the village who went to North Shore/LIJ and the NCPDEAB to inquire about those agencies to have those ambulance services cover RVC. So to say the RVCFD "bullied" the village is not the truth at all!!! But I may add, it is and has always been a pleasure to work with the 14A techs on calls in RVC.

Either way, some people might be thinking a little more about some of those "discretionary" (aka less appealing sounding) responses in the future.
When your the paid MUNICIPAL provider - you should be chasing down every job/run/assignment that your aware of.
Ethics comes into play when people work for a private entity (North Shore) hold an interest in same and bid or contract with a Public Entity (Village)for services. The interested Parties Bidding or contracting should not be connected with the Village,( As stated in a previous post.) According to General Municpal Law this would be considered an Ethical Violation. I was just asking a question of the writer. I praise RVC for taking a Bold stance, and addressing an issue. I was questioning the way the bid/contract was awarded bY the VILLAGE with the stement given. This was Not a shot at the RVC Fire Dept whom I hold in High Regard!
Re: Rockville Centre contracted w/North Shore Ambulance?Go to Top
What's the big deal so RVC did something to better the service to the village. Ethic's what about them ? Is it ethical to keep a person waiting 15-20 mins for a bus that has trouble getting out? It was being proactive!
Re: Rockville Centre contracted w/North Shore Ambulance?Go to Top
Does anyone really know how many aided cases rvc does a day? On some days it can be anywhere from 3 to 10 times they have to go out which might include other runs like fires and mva's. Ok, so now lets imagine, as they are, having a problem finding a crew to sit around and transport some of the thousands of sick elderlies that need to go to the hospital. We all know that 90% of the runs are not trauma or codes...so who has the time? The bus doesnt get out which is part of the year 2008...our economy is swirling down the toilet and people must work..sooooo...in comes the bigger part of the problem...There are black and whites patrolling the town with well paid ambulance drivers on board...yeah, The RVC Police...who are taken off patrol 7 times a day to do elderly transports with the 14A'S who are taken out of service to do this. So yes, this is a bag of sh*t...cops belong on the street...doing police work...not spending 6 hours at Mercy with a geriatric rectal bleed !! yes I have friends who are RVC cops and when I speak to them, they are not doing enforcement..they are wheeling
