To Pug135: RSS feeds allow you to monitor various forums for new messages using a newsreader such as those built into IE7 and Thunderbird, or a standalone reader such as GreatNews. It is an easy way of automating the search for new messages in the various forums without having to go and visit each forum in your web browser. Any messages you see can still be read through the web browser. I subscribe to many different newsfeeds on various websites and it is much easier to see a list of new headlines in a reader than it is to go and visit each individual web site. When I saw that this sites software supported RSS feeds I immediately plugged the links in to my reader to make getting updates easier. Unfortunately that only lasted about three weeks before the problem happened.
I went back and checked the URL above:
Code:
http://www.nassaufdrant.com/forum/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=23
but it returns the general RSS2 feed as if you do not specify any forum at all as in:
Code:
http://www.nassaufdrant.com/forum/external.php
I am pretty sure the "type" must be "rss2" in lower case as that is how the FAQ documents it:
Code:
http://www.nassaufdrant.com/forum/faq.php?s=&do=search&q=rss&match=all&titlesonly=0
and this forum software is the same as that used by two other sites I subscribe to and they use the same RSS URL format; wirelessadvisor.com and howardforums.com. The funny thing is one of these sites experienced the same RSS feed problem many months ago and I cannot for the life of me remember what the admin did to get them working again.
Manually entering the RSS URL for the Radio Room forum into IE returns a blank page rather than the XML output that it should:
Code:
http://www.nassaufdrant.com/forum/external.php?type=rss2&forumids=24
For now the general feed is updating correctly.
