Ok, so what is needed to have scanner in your car?
I took my portable with me the other day and reception was soso. and i dont want one of those 9ft attenas bouncing around the back of my truck.
Since your not a FF,PD, or EMT, just a buff (nothing bad against that), it would be hard to justify yourself to a cop with umm nevermind. Just be safe and dont get to close.
And, just to prove a point:
HAM operators do not have a "get out of jail free card" by showing their FCC license. This poor guy was given a ticket for having his 2meter radio in the car. It wasn't even a scanner, but the cop didn't know better: http://www.monitoringtimes.com/html/mtlaws_feb04.html
get a good mobil scanner connect to a power supply (either a plug or a fuse) you don't need a 9' wip antenna (but it helps) you can always put a clip for the window, if you are worried about the cops then use your portable but if not mount it i did with 4' antenna great reception
where can i get a dc adapter for a uniden bc60xlt?
And i don't get the big deal with buffs listening to calls in their cars. i read through all those articles, about how some say it ok while it irratates so many others. I personally dont mind listening when im on the road. beats half of the radio stations replayin same 15 songs over and over. I do realize the problem for criminals, but buffs who are law abiding are getting screwed.
