When we did or FIT-5 training sessions there, William Martin (lead arson investigator, from Long Island originally) asked me to mention to the Long Island Firefighter Community that they are hiring.

I have a presence in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with both our FIT-5 devices and family in the area.

We own vacation rental properties there, so we have a vested interest in local government and services, especially fire protection.

I can tell you that pay is not what it is here on Long Island, but the cost of living is also not the same.

A very good place to get a start with a career in the fire service. Benefits, experiance, vacation, pension etc.......


They particularly like vollies that come down from Long Island. A tremendous amount of transplanted New Yorkers are down there.

New homes can be had for under 175K, taxes of 1K/year. But you are not going to make 80K/year.

However, it is all relative. Gas is about .30 less than here.

I also know the 2nd in charge of both the County (Horry Cty FD) & The City of Myrtle Beach FD.

just trying to get a hold of how much pay i can hope for. mortgage, kids, wife, etc. etc. all on my personal payroll. i dont wanna waste my time or anyone else's if my initial investigation shows its impractical to make the move.

Maybe it would be wise to to make contact with Bill Martin, he could enlighten yo more than I could when they are actually hiring. It could me next month or it could be in 10 months. Whatever it is, he could tell you more than I.

I do not know more than what I posted, I took the initiative to put the post up.

Back from Baltimore.

I spoke today with Bill Martin, he stated that Horry County will be making another hiring announcement in aprox 60-90 days.

Check their site periodically. I will also post in when he tells me.

would love some more info on bluffton. so that i can be sure im looking at the right information on the internet, is the name of the existing department the Bluffton Township Fire Department? do you have anyone's name and contact information down there i can reach out to? when you say "pay is good" can u give me an idea of what you mean, either on this thread or PM? thanks for the info.
