You make it seem like that you know a ff stole the tools I'm sure as sh*t that there were a whole bunch of kids and other spectators there that might have lifted your tools . I am pretty sure you have the same tools that the rest of the Dept's that attended the parade have unless you have a six headed closet hook or a dual band haligan with 4 ads ends on it . Lets realize that if j.o.'s steal from church poor boxes what makes you think there not going to take a spanner wrench off a unattended fire truck ... just my opinion. I hope it wasn't a ff that lifted your tools but keep in mind it could have been some punk teenagers just taking things to take things not thinking of the consequences of what could have happened if you didn't check your truck before it went back into service (* i commend you on that *)
There was a thread started here a while back where 3 j.o's were caught taking bunker gear from a Suffolk dept , walking in the fire house through a open bay door like it was OK and taking the gear and they have them on film .................

I could be wrong, but I don't think he meant that a fireman stole the tools, but that firemen were in the area and someone still had the balls to take it off the rig. I could be wrong though.

Ever since 9/11 the bay doors has to be closed when the rig pulls out for a run, and the compartment doors on the rig have to be locked during parades.

Our new aerial ladder is being designed with a crew cab lockbox where we will place all of our "expensive" equipment anytime we are outside of our firehouse for parades mostly. Every now-and-then equipment grows legs and walks away.

im sorry to hear that some one would take any tool off a firetruck especially if it was a civilian they stole they very tool thats ment to protect them. that aside i guess we all really need to take this like this in stride and learn from them.

Its sad to say, but its 2008- there are a lot of mutts out there, both FD and non-FD.

Some food for thought....

...Rigs parking at parades out of eyesight of members should be "watched", probies & junior men take 15 minute "watches" of apparatus and equipment....

...Tool "ID"... Engrave EVERYTHING, INCLUDING personal equipment (that leatherman in your pocket, etc)... "Company Colors"... Paint tools when you can- YOUR colors.

...If someone is gonna scumbag your stuff, make it that much harder for them to re-sell it or use it.

"Ebay Patrol"- Missing equipment? Have members check out Ebay and other fire-related auction sites. Odds are you might be able to snag the schmuck who took your shit.

In FP we had a set of tools stolen off our rig at our fundraiser...We dont think it was a FF because thats not cool to mess with our tools. Maybe a sign or a Lic Plate but not tools. Several years ago we had a Bart on our Mack Bulldog. It got stolen and someone made notes up and mailed them to us.
