There is a new product on the market that is being used instead of wood to secure vacant structures. It was first discovered in the city, and they have put out a safety bulletin in regards to it, and has made its way to Nassau(Hemp.). The company uses metal security gates over the windows and doors. It is going to be a labor and time consuming task to remove these gates and they are a certain death trap for any members that become trapped behind them. I urge you to pass this info on to all your members.

IF ANYONE HERE HAS A MEMBER IN THEIR HOUSE WHO IS ALSO A CITY FF, ASK THEM ABOUT THESE. THE COMPANY WHO INSTALLS THESE PRODUCTS WILL ONLY PUT THEM ON STRUCTURES THAT ARE COMPLETLY VACANT AND ALSO PROVIDE A DVD FROM CHICAGO FD IN REGUARDS TO REMOVING THEM. I'VE ALSO RECENTLY SEEN A NEWER VERSION AT WORK WHICH IS A LITTLE HARDER TO REMOVE. WAS ONLY TIME BEFORE THEY ARRIVED ON LONG ISLAND.
The literature for them has been around for some time now. They are not hard to tackle as it would seem. Knowing the idea behind their design and cutting in the right spots is the key. VES web gave a bit better visual than that FE article.
Started to pop in East New York, Brownsville area a couple of months ago, I think they've been in areas outside of NY for a few years now, just starting to become popular here.I think we are gonna start seeing more of this
Hempstead has one confirmed Vacant PD Fortified with the VPS System (sure we will be seeing more soon enough), Appears to be secured with two types of entry doors, and two different styles of Window Securment measures.
I just sent an e-mail to the manufacturer giving them my full pedigree and contact info asking for a copy of the DVD. I'll let you know how I make out.
Does anyone have a copy of the Chicago FD DVD? I would like to see it.
I was in touch with a friend who is a Chicago firefighter. He wasn't aware of a DVD however he did send me the Chicago FD Training Bulletin for VPS .
If anyone would like a copy send me a PM and I'll make sure you get one.
