Cops: Doc to be charged in death of sick wife
A Roslyn radiologist is being charged in the death of his terminally ill wife, who had been found dead in their Flower Hill home, Nassau County police said Thursday.
Charges against Dr. Rajasekar Sham, 68, are pending in the death of Lucila Sham, a 69-year-old woman who had been diagnosed with cancer, police said.
Police had gone Tuesday at 5:47 p.m. to the couple's single-family home at 22 Fernwood Lane after receiving a call from the couple's attorney that he hadn't heard from the two in some time, said Det. Sgt. Anthony Repalone, a police spokesman.
"He was concerned, and he called police to check on the couple," Repalone said.
Sixth Precinct officers who went to the house made the discovery, Repalone said.
The wife was pronounced dead at the home, and Rajasekar Sham was taken to the hospital with injuries. He has since been arrested.
Repalone said he couldn't elaborate on what officers found at the scene, the extent of the husband's injuries, or theories on how both were injured until detectives receive an updated report, expected as soon as Thursday, from the Nassau County medical examiner's office.
"The cause of death is undetermined at this time, and the investigation is continuing," Repalone said Wednesday in a statement.
Sham, who received his medical-school degree in 1964 from Madras Medical College in India, has been licensed to practice medicine in New York since 1971, state records show.
