I'm very surprised that Emergency does not live on at some re-run station on cable. That show was my all time favorite growing up (while it was still in production.) That's what put the bug in me to join when I got older. Too bad it's not on anywhere. Oh well, for those who don't know, they just released the 2nd season on DVD last month. At least I can pop in a DVD whenever I get the itch to watch it.
There are some guys out in LA that have started a petition to get EMERGENCY back on the air on TV Land. If I get more info, I'll post it. A 'RESCUE ME' thread ... okay, but you have to include Ladder 62 in the "runs and workers" and the "transmit the 10" threads.
I think that there are some technical things that keep certain people from really enjoying it to the max. Little stuff like the non-realistic sounding tone and voice alarm in the firehouse, that the boss is never with the irons and can man, that the chief is giving orders to the men and by-passing the boss, that you occasionally see a pick headed axe married to a Halligan, the E-One Ladder, the ultra unrealistic roof rope rescue performed on the show last season, Manhasset-Lakeville's Quint, Manhasset-Lakeville Co. 3's firehouse passed off as a Staten Island firehouse, the paint job on the Mack pumper, the outdated chief's suburban and some other small things. Aside from minor techincal things when it comes to the firefighting and stuff, I kind of enjoy the show. I enjoy it because it is a about a regular guy who is a firefighter. I mean think about it, people complain about the show because of the portrayal and stereotype that Denis Leary has created of member of the the FDNY. He plays a firefighter from a firefighting family of Irish descent, from The Rockaways with a bad marriage and a drinking problem. That's not a stereotype at all. ;-) Firefighters have issues just like everyone else. How they handle those issues is part of what makes them who they are and that is what makes the show interesting.
Leary was on Opie & Anthony Wednesday and confirmed that season 3 of rescue me starts on the 30th of May and the season 2 dvd's should be out in mid may as well as a soundtrack cd. They are still filming the 3rd season.
I wish they would just get the technical aspect of the show together. Isn't there an engine in the house? What happened to that whole company? Why is the truck always riding understaffed by 1? Is ladder 62 so good they don't need an OV? Why does dennis leary always have his coat open? Is he so tough he repells heat? I don't get it. They need a technical advisor. Maybe they can hire sig. 12 :D
Let's really pick it apart ... Yeah, no engine, no engine manpower in the firehouse, a pick headed axe instead of a flat headed axe for the irons man, no bunny tool for the irons man, a pink braided fiber LSR instead of a 150 foot 9/16 nylon one, a truck boss who stays outside or is never with his inside team, a voice alarm that sounds like a female DJ on an easy listening station, no tone alarm, an officer in the firefighter's bunk room, E-One rigs, the paint scheme on the engine (when you see it), a probie that never gets off probation, the main character that is from Rockaway, drinks too much and has a bad marriage ... on second thought that might actually be some what accurate, very rarely seeing second and or third due companies, Ladder 62 is always first due, the over involvement of the chiefs in dealing directly with the men, no captain, just the lieutenant, small black strings holding chocks and flashlights to the helmets in the first series - not a piece of tire inner tube, the probie class at the rock (yes, many were members of the department acting as stand ins) in the first season - no one has hair that long in probie school, using M-LFD Company 3's quarters as the scene for Tommy's detail to Staten Island, seeing 8722 on the side of the quint when they were shooting inside M-LFD Company 2's quarters, the antique chief's car ...
I'm more likely to overlook Leary's mistakes because he gives so much back. What he sacrifices in money towards research goes in donations to the service. Besides donating to the burn center, this guy through the Leary Foundation has bought both apparatus and training facility upgrades. They can respond in pink tutu's on that show, as long as its popular Leary keeps donating money.
I believe that one of the guys that was gonna be an advisor was taken from us on 9/11/01,he was a silent advisor on 3rd Watch (for the FD part only). Denis mentions him quite frequently on the show.
