Was browsing through the firefighting close calls website and came across this photo. Thought this was a good training photo. You can get a better photo and story on the website.
small picture but looks like NOT stabilized and also no gear and the guy is trying to hold up a 20,000 lb car by himself i mean he is a big guy but id be impressed if he could bench 200lbs I WASN'T THERE SO I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE SITUATION REALLY WAS MABY PERSON TRAPPED AND FIRE INVOLVED U DO WHAT U GOTTA DO TO GET THEM OUT I DUNNO I WASN'T THERE
You've also got someone (perhaps a buff/bystander/"off duty" member) attempting to hold the car steady. Holding it is dangerous to begin with, even more dangerous considering the guy's not in any protective gear. A closer look and you see that there is another person without any gear to the bottom right behind the car assisting the FF. It is just as important to note that it's just a quick snapshot of that incident, so you can't really quarterback it too much.
GUYS IN NO GEAR COULD BE AMB CREWS NOw THAT I THINK ABOUT IT AMB CREWS DONT WEAR GEAR UNLESS SPECIFIED TO IN DEPT SOP'S LIKE I SAID I DONT KNOW I WASNT THERE AND YES ITS JUST A ONE SECOND SNAPSHOT OF A PROBABLY 15 TO 20 MIN OPPERATION
There are actually 3 people in the picture without gear on who are actively involved in what is going on, 4 if you include the FF who is not wearing a helmet. They are also wearing shorts and one has what appear to be slip-on shoes, EMS or not you know that isn't in SOP. What makes me wonder though is the plethora of people in reflective gear in the background who are doing, well, nothing, and the 3 or 4 COPS who are also standing around doing nothing. This, to me, almost looks like a post-ops photo of some people just checking out the wreck rather than an action shot. Monday morning QB much?

I highly doubt that it is a 20,000 pound car! And if you really look closely it appears there might be some sort of cribbing between the two firefighters on the ground. Either that or maybe it is a pole that the car hit.
The other night while watching "COPS" on tv there was a clip of a auto accident.NYC emergency services were involved.Showed the cops using a jaws to cut the roof off a car.Nobody had any gear on,only thier uniforms.
its stablized look theres a fat guy with no gear keeping the car in place....is that not text book....that and the ff with head under car works great for me .

Is that the episode with the bat in the apartment, if so that accident looked like maybe the belt pkwy, as I recall it was around 1996 or so?
If you look closely at the back right, there is actually a guy w/o gear holding what appears to be a broom?!!!! Just what you need for an extrication/rollover with patient still inside! "Quick!!! Get me the broom!"
Did we establish that this was a rescue in progress...all the people who are in gear just staning around in the back don't make sense to me....
perhaps a DOA removal? The backboard is there for a reason, but it doesn't seem urgent...
